  Fallen leaves on wooden stairs  I was just leaving for a walk when I noticed these wet leaves on our deck stairs.  The mood that I felt just seemed to convey the end of autumn. I have many more "fall color" photos to post but the season is waning, soon to be replaced by bitter cold, ice, and snow.  So here's to the soon-to-be end of Autumn.

  Cold autumn sunset behind my favorite tree  A cold autumn sun setting behind a tree in our neighbor's pasture. Some years, the leaves hang on for weeks.  This year, it shed within a few days.  The sun setting with the clouds streaming and the wind blowing made for a beautiful (yet cold) sunset.

Fence line and tracks going on to the hills on a cold autumn day The air was cold and the wind brisk but I had to stop when I saw the sun trying to shine on this field.  It only briefly touched the grasses but it was still bright enough to capture the fence line and tracks reaching back to the "back forty" of this farm.

  Little red barn down a dead end road with autumn colors This road was closed some time ago because the railroad crossing was dangerous.  However, there are still folks who live on it and I decided to drive back and take a look.  There were still a few trees with foliage and the colors were bright, despite to cold, gray day.

  Last bits of autumn colors on the trail Autumn tries to hang on as best it can.  I'm all for it.  I love the autumn colors and capture them until the last.  Along the lake is very windy and the leaves are swept away.  I found part of the trail that was sheltered and the sun lit up the remnants of Autumn.

  Sunset clouds over the valley I took this photo earlier in the week. The sunset grabbed me so hard that I pulled off into a stranger's driveway and jumped out and used my phone to grab it.  I missed the sun by a few seconds but the glow was still evident over the hill. A sunset to be thankful for on Thanksgiving day!

  Tracks into an Autumn sunset I saw the sunset clouds when I was leaving my office and knew I had to stop at a special spot.  This spot is where I can see down the railroad tracks reaching out to the west and sunsets can peak through.  This was just one of those days.

  Crimson sunset colors  The reds in the sky after sunset always captivate me.  The way the colors shimmer on the clouds and change literally, as you watch, just make me stop and stare.  Sometimes, I think enough to get photos.

  Old tree in the midst of autumn color  On one of my many walks, I came to the edge of a clearing and this old tree came into view.  It almost looked like an old strong arm with veins running through  it. The strength of another season standing.

  Colors of a November sunset The clouds look cold and gray, bleak and depressing. Suddenly, the sky changed, it lit up.  The colors emerged at the top and bottom edge of the grey clouds to reveal these glorious colors. A nice ending to the day.

  Winding lane in sunset light While driving the other night, I pulled into a driveway to snap a shot of the sun setting across the fields.  When I cam around the car, I noted that the driveway I had pulled up into was a very winding little lane.  I knew I had to give that little lane a little love, too.

  Misty morning sunlight just reaching the autumn trees Yesterday morning - we were iu a pocket of fog. As I walked out to my car to go to work - I glanced at the neighbor's yard and this was the scene.  The morning sun just reaching the red autumn leaves in their yard. A beautiful cool morning.

Sunset across the fields through the trees    I stopped along the road on the way home from work when I saw the sun setting.  I don't know what the owners thought when I pulled into their driveway but I just had to grab a shot of the sunset . I'm not sure why, but this shot reminds me of the time and area I grew up in.  The easy-going childhood and simplicity.

Autumn colors in the mountain road   While at my father-in-laws home, I took a walk and saw more pockets of autumn's glory and caught this scene of a road leading through the colors up to the mountain. 

Autumn reflections in the pond I took a walk in the woods at my in-laws home and found these subtle reflections in a pond nearby.  They are north of us and Autumn is coming to a close there.  They still had some pockets of color in protected areas so I had to capture nature's beauty where I found it.  I thought this showed nature trickling the color from the trees into the water of the pond.

  Water on the dock after a rainy morning  The wind was blowing after the storms overnight and the morning rain.  The sky was beginning to clear but the wind coming off the lake was cold - a foretaste of the winter to come.  The dock was still slick and wet but the sky was improving as I started my walk.

Autumn colors along the trail I decided to take a long hike yesterday.  The wind has been blowing lately - quite a bit - and most of the leaves on this side of the trail were bare.  However, in the protected and dense areas, there was still foliage hanging on.  Here is one segment that still had some color. Autumn seems to be a fleeting friend this year.  I'm still going to post all I can of the color I find.

An autumn view that welcomes and invites you into to look at the blue sky and clouds. It was a nice sunny morning when I captured this shot at the end of a spit of land along the lake shore. I hope you find it as peaceful as I did.

Early morning sunshine with autumn colors This is literally taken in my back yard while my dog was doing his morning business.  He stopped, I looked, and the scene just hit me.  I'm so thankful that we have cameras that we carry all the time that we talk in to (our phones). 

Autumn colors in a winding road    Autumn is slowly winding into winter.  The leaves are falling and winter is just around the corner.  I'm enjoying the yellows, oranges, and reds while I can. This winding road always seems to bring the thought of now knowing what's around the corner. Hopefully, whatever is there is just as pretty as the here and now.

Empty chair by the creek on an autumn morning While out on a jaunt on a day off, I chanced upon this lone empty chair. It just seemed so out of place here.  A warm Autumn morning with the colors and sunshine and a lonely chair.  It makes me wonder why and who put it there, but it made for an interesting photo.

  Frosty autumn leaves We finally had enough cold weather to get a hard frost. It was cold but with most of the autumn colors on the ground - it made for a pretty photo.

  Autumn reflections in the flowing water Out on a long walk yesterday, the air was still in the late afternoon and my trip took me along a creek near us.  The sun was setting over the  hill so there was no sunshine near to me.  I looked down into the water and notice that the sun was hitting the other side and this reflection greeted me. 

Crescent moon just after sunset While out for a walk last evening, my son exclaimed, look at the crescent moon. It was so small that it took me a few seconds to find it. The sunset colors were capturing my attention. I did find it and managed a snap before we continued our walk.

Afternoon sun shining through the autumn woods The sun shining through the woods is always a beautiful sight but the autumn color just brings a warmth to the soul, despite it not being particularly warm outside.

Winding road through the autumn woods Turned up the old mountain road again - different location.  I loved the way the road snakes through the woods and meadows. The autumn colors just made for a "country" feel.

Lone fisherman out in the dawn light Early in  the morning, I stopped by the lake and happened to notice a fisherman way out on the lake.  It was so quite and peaceful - hardly a sound, except some lone early-birds waking up.  The view was so peaceful, yet almost abstract.

Fall’s colors down an old logging road The days have not been clear here in the Mid-Atlantic US for a few days and the season keeps changing.  The leaves progress but without the blue skies to help make the colors pop.  I actually saw this scene from my car.  I stopped the car, jumped out, and (after getting my feet muddy on the edge of the road) snapped this photo.  It is one I like alot.

Grasses against a dark sky While out for a walk the other day, I saw these grasses lit up by the sun against a passing storm cloud.  As usual, the family with me wondered just what I was taking a photo of.  I showed them after I was done and they understood.

  Dirt road through the autumn woods   On the way home from church, I decided to drive up an old dirt road.  Autumn is nearing peak and the day was rainy. The colors seemed to pop and this road reminded me of days long past. Enjoy every day while you can!
