Sunset and Snow Melt Photo of the Day 59/365 The temperatures are finally getting warm enough to help envision the coming spring. I know we might have more snow and cold, but our snow is almost gone (hence the snow melt), I hear many birds singing, and I could feel the warmth enough to take a late-day walk and grab some photos. This was from last evening.

Sun Setting through the Trees Photo of the day 58/365 I took this photo Wednesday evening when I got to our karate school. I had been working out on my own when I saw the light from the sun hitting the building. When I arrived, it had been cloudy so I had few hopes of a sunset - nature surprised me (again) and this scene was given to me. I went outside and managed to get this view (and a couple of others) before the sun set.

Just Before Sunrise at the Farm Photo of the Day 57/365 This photo was taken about 10 years ago at our prevoius home. I was on my way to work and looked in my rearview mirror and had to stop. The sky that I saw was just outstanding. Since were were on a country road with little traffic - I just stopped, got out and took a photo. The road was our road and the farm was at the other end from my home. The colors of the sky with the snow was just breathtaking (but cold).

Snowy Afternoon at the Lake Photo of the Day 56/365 This photo has languished in my back catalog for awhile - but I wanted to dig it out for a winter posting here. I loved that lake and used to have easy access to it, even late inthe day. Hoever, like many of my older photos, it needed a bit of editing to spruce it up and make it show itself the way I remembered it. In this case, the sky and snow fooled the camera so I had to adjust the colors and tones to make it (in my opinion) more realistic. It is now the way I wanted it.

Colorful Early Morning Drive Photo of the Day 55/365 This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. We were on a breakfast run to a local town and heading towards a detour when we crested a hill and I saw the sun trying to break through the clouds at the horizon. The gold, yellows, and oranges at the horizon offset the blues and grays of the clouds. I liked the lines of color and the leading lines of the road ahead.

Colorful Sky Shining on the Snow Photo of the Day 54/365 Admittedly, this photo was taken a few weeks ago, just after our first big snow of the season, but I wanted to share it.  When I had taken it, I really hadn't noticed the colorful reflections in the snow. With yesterday being just so blah, I wanted to post something that had warmth and color - and despite the snow, this does that.

Old Field, Fence, and Cannon Photo of the Day 53/365 I took this photo yesterday. We were out on a train ride tour that we purchased for my mother-in-law (ie "Mom"). We all had a nice relaxing time hearing the history of the area around Gettysburg, both before and after the American Civil War. I got this shot as we were on the return trip. The sky was a beautiful blue and the sun was out (unlike the snowstorm we're seeing now). Good memories and a good time.

Old Barn on a Misty Afternoon Photo of the Day 52/365 The temperatures have finally moderated so that the snow has mostly melted (althought we're supposed to get 4+ inches tomorrow...sigh) - so my wife and I took our dog for a walk at a local walking track. Along the way, I spotted two barns that were older and worn and just seemed nostalgic sitting along the road. I could not resist take a photo or two.

Snow and Ice by the Lake Photo of the Day 51/365 This photo was taken at our local State Park (Gifford Pinchot) and it was a cold sunset sky. It had been cold enough for some time for the lake to freeze over. The snow had started to melt due to the sunshine and that eveing, the sunset was wonderful (but cold). That lade is and will be, one of my fave local spots.

Winter Sunset over the Field Photo of the Day 50/365 I took this photo a few nights ago while out on one of the first sunset walks of this year. The temperature had moderated and I was able to get out for a bit. When I left the house, the sky wasn't too promising, but as I got near the neighbor's farm, the view improved and I was able to get a good number of shots. I've posted two before and this is the last of my favorites from that walk.

Afternoon Sky over the Valley Photo of the Day 49/365 I took this photo last evening on the way home from work. I knew it was too early for a sunset, but the temperatures have finally warmed up so that I can pull off ther road, and the afternoon sky looked nice, so I grabbed 4 or 5 shots and went on my way. I think this came out as a nice view of ther the melting snow in the valley.

Sunset over the Truck Photo of the Day 48/365 This photo was take a few days ago while out on one of my first "sunset walks" of the year. It has been too cold and snowy to get out - but a few nights ago, I saw the sky and decided to brave the weather and go out. When I passed the neighbor's house, I noticed the truck in the back yard and decided that I liked this composition. He was in his yard so I only got one shot before I needed to move on - but I do like it.

Tree, Snowy Field and Sunset Glow Photo of the Day 47/365 I decided, two nights ago, to try out the first real sunset walk after the snowstorm of a couple weeks ago. The temperature has not been above freezing for days and days and if it did get above freezing, it wasn't when I was home. Well, the sky didn't look too promising but I was pleasantly surprised by the sunset I got and with the field and the tree at the right place, I was pleased with the composition. Except for a little cropping, this photo is how it looked.

Sunset Behind the Farm Photo of the Day 46/365 This photo was taken some time ago and I really liked it but had no opportunity to post it. The sky wasn't right but I liked the sillhouette of the farm. So, I worked on the photo and edited it until it became what I envisioned. The camera, no mater how "smart" it is, cannot overcome the differences between a sensor and our optec nerves (and imagination). So, sometimes, you have to work at it to make it come alive.

Sunset Glow Behind the Neighbor's House Photo of the day 45/365 Last evening, I went out to grab some food because my wife was tired and a bit under the weather. When I went out to the car, I saw the sunset glow and a few wispy clouds. However, it was COLD, and I was on a time crunch. I saw the view to the rear of my neighbor's home with the sunset glow and the snow and tried to get a shot because I thought it was a good view, as usually, with the grass and scrub brush, it isn't much to look at. This view is what I saw.

Just Before Sunrise on the Snowy Field Photo of the Day 44/365 I took this photo on the way to work a couple of days ago. I finally found a place to get off the road during this extended period of snow, so I could get some nice shots. I took more than a few and I like this one the best. I really like the colors and clouds in the sky, especially against the snow and trees in the field.

Sunrise Sky on the Snowy Creek Photo of the Day 43/365 This photo was taken yesterday morning on the way to work. I saw the small burst of red on the horizon and hte blues and golds in the sky. Unfortunately, there are still few, if any, places to pull off the road to get a photo. However, on our campus, on can just stop at the side, put on the 4-way flashers and people will just go around. I was able to get a few shots here and like the colors, and the reflection, with the snow.

Wispy Clouds make a Great Sunset Photo of the Day 42/365 I ran out to the store last evening to get gas - and some adult beverages for me and my wife, while my wife got dinner ready. As I left the store, I was marvelling at the setting sun and after putting my items in the car, I decided to try to get a photo from the parking lot. I tried three angles and one turned out pretty well and you see it here. The clouds made the sunset.

Wonderful Winter Sunset Scene Photo of the Day 41/365 I took this photo a few weeks ago near to a spot where a former co-worker lived. I loved the scenic views near their home and I couldn't pass this one up. The wild clouds and fiery sky paired with the snow in the fields just made really nice landscape. This person has moved on from this place and our workplace, but we remain friends so this place still has positive vibes for me.

Sunset Glow over the Hills and Trees Photo of th eDay 40/365 I took this photo a few days ago while out on a drive. The weather tonight looks very similar. The snow hasn't melted much, but it appears that it is evaporating. The glow of sunset hangs over the seeming ocean of white ice and snow and the cold is bone-chilling. They say it'll break sometime this week. We'll see and, in reality, we'll take whatever comes.

Last Glow of the Day Photo of the Day 39/365 This photo was taken a week or two ago but just wasn't where I wanted it to be. I liked it and it had all the elements of a photo I'd love - but it just wasn't quite there. So, I messed around with it, in Lightroom and finally got it to where it conveyed my vision and now the photo is what I wanted. I hope you enjoy it.

Predawn Sky over the Neighbor's House Photo of the Day 38/365 This photo was taken just other morning. I was leaving for work (and running a few minutes late) and I stopped when I saw the wonderful sky over the neighbor's home. I only had time for one try and then had to be on my way. I was fortunate that I got that one shot. With the ice-hard snow we have, there is nowhere else to pull over and get the nice dawn skies lately, so I take what I can get.

Afternoon Sky over a Cold Snowy Field Photo of the Day 37/365 This photo was taken some years ago. We were out on a winter jaunt, just driving around our local area, near to our previous home. We were in a valley that my wife knew but I hadn't seen before. I asked her (as always) to slow down, if there was not traffic behind us. She obliged and I was able to get a couple of shots before there was a car coming behind us.  Like it is now, it was a COLD WINDY day - but with a little less snow than now.

Late Afternoon by the House Photo of the Day 36/365 This photo was take a few weeks ago. When I took the photo, I could not get the image to come out of the camera to be what I saw, so I worked on editing it. I tried a number of methods and processes and finally came up with one that came very close to what I visualized. I guess the sun was too bright with the snow but I think the edit is very faithful to what I "saw".

Sunset Glow over the Snow Photo of the Day 35/365 My oldest changes the oil in my car and last evening we went over to get that done and "hang out" for a bit. On the way, I noted that the sunset had been blotted out by clouds but that there was a glow. While my wife drove I managed to catch one or two decent shots of that glow over the snow-covered fields. This was the best of those shots and I like the texture in the glowing clouds.

Sunrise in the Neighborhood Photo of the 34/365 This photo was taken last weekend on our road trip to breakfast. We were driving and had to take a detaour. As we wentt, the sun was rising and we had to drive through the end of a housing development. I was able to capture a view of the sun coming up near some of those homes and was very pleased with the photo.

Colorful Sky on the Way Home Photo of the Day 33/365 This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago and has sat in my back catalog waiting for its time. The colors were very outstanding - but it needed a tiny bit of editing and cropping due to it being a "on the drive" shot out of the car window. Of the multiple shots I took coming down this hill, this was the best and the colors were just shockingly good.

Morning Sun through the Trees Photo of the Day 32/365 My wife and I were going out to breakfast yesterday morning, before she was to drop me off at my son's home. We have to currently take a detour to get to the day's favored breakfast diner. On the detour, I notied the sun trying to break through the heavy blanket of clouds. She was driving so I shot what I could. I managed this shot, which I thought was pretty cool for a "drive-by" shot. I think the trees are sharp and the colors really represent what I saw.
