Sunset sky over the fields This photo is a an attempt at a serious edit of a photo I took quite some time ago. I decided to use the tools I have, use some videos (mostly youtube) and see where I could go with the knowledge.  I'll have to do more of this as I think the mood I saw now matches what the photo shows the audience.

Mid-afternoon snack at the farm I was out on a spring day and out for a walk around my neighborhood.  I happened to see one of our neighbor's horses out grazing.  They've come to ignore me - I don't have carrots or snacks so they just let me snap my photos. I really liked the sunshine glinting off the horses mane against the barn. The trees aren't all green yet but spring has arrived.

Reflections in the water in the dark woods   This photo, taken some time ago, has a direct correlation to my mood yesterday.  I've held onto this photo for quite some time.  It's moody and dar, but there is light. Even in the darkness, there are reflections. A very moody and pensive scene.

Running down an open road A few weeks ago - I had the day off and my wife and I were just taking a drive down some local back roads. It was mid-afternoon and it was a lazy day. On this road, there was no traffic and a few trees were starting to show some life. I asked her to just stop while I took this photo. This photo makes me want to get back out on the road.

Straight line of clouds just after sunset I was leaving my karate classes when I saw this very odd line of clouds seeming to separate the sunset sky from the night sky.  The white, wispy clouds above and the orange tinge of sunset below were too mysterious to pass up.

Dogwood blossoms in the sunset glow The past few evenings  have had nice orange sunsets, but no clouds. Clouds bring drama to a sunset.  With the blooming of the dogwood tree in our yard, I thought I would try to get some scene that showed both the flowers and the sunset sky.  I took many shots before I got this one, the best of the day.

Sunset view at the farm  Last evening, despite the lack of clouds, I took a walk too see what I could see.  I noted the new blooms of various trees and flowers, bu the sun coming through the tree at the neighbor's farm along with large boulders which give my street it's name, just made for the winner photo of the day.

Beech tree reaching into the sky This tree stood almost alone by the road.  My wife and I spotted it while walking at Winterthur. It was tall and the ground cover was sparse enough that I could get right up to the base, place my phone on the bark and shoot straight up.  It was a great day and this was a really satisfying shot.

Sun on the trees, hill in shadow   While on the way home from work, I saw the puffy clouds in the blue sky.  I also noticed the shadows as they played across the fields and hills.  I waited to capture this group of trees in the sunlight while the hills were dark, in shadow, behind them.

Trees on the hill in the late afternoon Sometimes, you just catch the right light with a good subject. We were driving down the road when I spotted this small stand of trees in the field with the color in the clouds behind.  When I switched to a wider lens, the clouds seemed to point towards the trees - like it was a sign.

Spring house reflections in the pond  During our last weekend visit to Winterthur, I saw this spring house and took many (probably too many) photos of it. This is my favorite one.  The reflection of the house in the pond with the field behind just make for a very peaceful scene.

Down the road at the end of the day  On the way home from visiting my in-laws, my wife and I noted the sky.  I knew that there would be no "glorious sunset" because the clouds just weren't in the right spot.  I did see some potential for a nice shot, so I asked her to take a side road and we spotted this old road heading off into the west.  It just said "going home" to me.

Victorian folly on a hill (and we did climb up to it)  At Winterthur - there are more trails and paths that I believe I can walk in a day. You can see this little building (a Victorian Folly) from the main path through the grounds.  We decided to actually walk (well, hike really) to it.  It was a climb - but well worth it. The weather was spectacular for such an adventure.

Sun shining through the early spring foliage While we were walking the grounds at Winterthur, my wife said "look up".  The budding leaves almost looked like fine lace in the clear sunshine. I couldn't resist taking a photo. Happy Easter everyone!

Winding country road This week will be a Winterthur week. My wife and I spent an  almost flawless day at the Dupont Estate named Winterthur. The grounds are expansive and very bucolic.  The spring foliage was spectacular and the skies were clear. You'll see more of my favorite shots throughout the week...

Pretty sky after sunset Another sunset found on the way home.  The wedge of clouds was from the front that had passed earlier in the evening and left us with clearing skies - and a beautiful sunset.

Just before dawn at the pond Another photo from my morning trip to work. There are just so many farms and so many scenic possibilities. This pond is relatively small but reflects the morning sky so well. This particular morning, the clouds formed a beautiful pastel swatch of colors. A good morning.

Big clouds at the lake  Sometimes, on a walk, a scene will almost startle you with it's beauty.  This bank of clouds was only evident for a short few minutes.  Getting a clearing at the edge of the lake was the challenge.  I found one and this scene just seemed to frame the clouds and the water nicely.

Early morning sun rising through the mist and trees Stopping at our local game lands, on the way to work, I noted the clouds, but I had missed the sunrise (sunrises and sunsets are my favorite subjects). Well, I got the right angle to capture the early morning sun as it shone thought the trees and over the mist. It made for a nice, peaceful shot.

Cloudy sunset at the lake A cloudy day sometimes yields a beautiful sunset. This has been true on many of my lakeside walks. Sometimes, it's just gray skies - other times, the sun will break through at just the right time to give a gorgeous view. This was one of the latter days. Sunset through the pines with some late-day color int he clouds.

Peaceful morning scene on a lake This photo is from my father's slide collection.  He shot in the age of film and never had a digital camera. The scene was one of beauty, peace and tranquility. I love seeing the world through his eyes. I'm sure this lake is somewhere in Pennsylvania, but I cannot say where. I just know it's one of his best.

Morning mist and lonely trees across a muddy field   Yesterday morning, on the way to work, I had noticed a van tailgating me.  I really hate that as it adds stress to my day, when it hasn't even really started yet.  I saw the mist in the field, out of the corner of my eye, and had to pull off to turn around.  That helped to get the fellow out from behind me, and I could capture this image. The image is so peaceful, it was worth the extra time and lessened stress.

Clouds and blue sky at the lake   On a walk at our local lake, I saw this view across the lake with the clouds and blue sky.  I was determined to get the photo.  I had to climb the boulders you see in fhe foreground. The climb up was a challenge, to say the least.  The real adventure was getting back down - as I realized that I was so focused on the photo that I went completely off the trail. I made it and the shot was worth it.

Colorful sunset sky and my favorite tree Out on a later afternoon walk with the dog, I marveled at the colorful clouds with the later afternoon sun.  We were walking in the right direction to see if I could catch the sun amongst the branches of my favorite tree, in the neighbor's field. The outcome was spectacular.

Old logging road on a dark cloudy day   Another hike in the woods.  I was walking up the old logging roads and saw the twists and turns in the old road.  The clouds were dark and foreboding.  These roads were made in a much slower time when the transport was horses or oxen and wagons. The clouds passed and the mood lightened. But the dark clouds made me think of the past.

Spring clouds just after sunset Out with my youngest child on a walk the other night, the sun had just set and there was a fine line of color near the horizon.  The brightness hadn't yet left the sky so the clouds were shown in the twilight.  A nice spring sky.

Along the shore where the sea meets the sky This photo is from my father's collection.  I've been scanning his negatives this year to see his work.  This photo is in Maine during t he last trip my parents took as a couple.  It is a fantastic shot, but it also, to me, is a sad reminder of their last trip together.  This photo was taken in 1975 - about 47 years ago.

Reaching to the heavens As I walked up the old logging roads, the wind whistled by and the clouds moved quickly in the sky.  I rounded a bend in the old road and came across a solitary tree reaching up and up.  It was taller than it's neighbors and seemed to stand alone.  I could not resist taking this photo up from the bottom.

Spring has definitely sprung  I hiked out, yesterday, despite the threat of rain and a cold wind in the air.  It was worth it!  The old fruit trees on the public lands just starting to bud provided hope of the warm spring to come.  The trails, the old logging roads, and even the older gent who I saw walking with his dogs - all harbingers of a a new spring season coming.

On one of my morning hikes, I happened upon this little inlet along the lake shore.  The overgrowth broke up the morning sun light and little bits of morning orange and sky blue shone through the mist.  It made for, in my opinion, a very painterly photo.
