  Last morning view of West Virginia On our way home yesterday, we came upon this scenic overlook.  My friend (who is hard of hearing) didn't hear us ask to pull over so he only did so at the last second.  It was worth the scare. The mountains seemed to stretch out forever.

 Vacation Trip to West Virginia       Autumn in the Maryland Mountains   We left with some friends for a trip to West Virginia.  We had some ideas and saw some cool sites - but it was late fall and the beauty was breathtaking.  This photo was taken on the way to West Virginia.  The colors in the mountains in Maryland were spectacular. Golden Trees in front of a Misty Wood I caught this photo while we were in Oakland, Maryland on a day trip to see the sights.  It was across from the Garrett County Lighthouse.  The misty wood made the yellows just stand out. I almost got left behind by my friends and wife, but I managed to catch up. Blackwater Falls   Blackwater Falls is in Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia.  There is an easy way to see these falls.  There are stairs (that are seemingly endless to us older folk) that will take you to an observation platform next to the falls (just to the left of this photo).   Old road through there golden colors of autumn While on a visit to my in-laws, we decided to stop at the turnout on the top of the mountain. I explored a little and this dirt access road led even higher to the very top.  In spring and summer, this area is used, sometimes, by para-glides who just from the very top. In the fall, it is just beautiful.  I took a short walk and the curving road was inviting with  the gold trees in the afternoon light.

  Autumn morning on an old road through the game lands The other day, I had the day off and took advantage of my time.  I drove about, and walked about in various areas, including a "game lands" that is reserved, in season, for (mostly) hunters.  The roads are little more than paths, but the views are beautiful and mostly untouched. Autumn borders on hunting season, but I managed to get some pretty "shots" without a gun.

  Afternoon sun shining through a lone autumn tree On the way home from work - At a "T" in the road, I noticed the afternoon sun streaming through the tree right across from me.  I looked in the rear-view and no one was behind me, so I took this quickly with my phone. These moments are fleeting - so I grab them while I can. Hope you enjoy!

  Autumn on display on a dirt road While out on a "scenic" drive, I was be able to stop my car and get this shot.  The glory of autumn is on display in the morning's dappled light. I sometimes wish this could last longer, but change and transition is what life is really all about.  Be present and enjoy these moments, they are fleeting.

  Autumn splendor reaching over the road I had yesterday as a "fall break" day - so I took about 90 minute drive around the area in the morning. This was one of the really pretty scenes I found.  These colors in the morning light were just outstanding and beautiful. I was thankful to have that amount of time to just unwind and let the scenery into my mind and into my camera.

  Dirt mountain road through the autumn woods  In my drives through the mountains - dirt roads were always an attraction.This road, while familiar to me, just seemed, at time, to lead to better places. The autumn colors were a welcome change from the greens of summer. A very pretty time of the year.

  Autumn colors along the fence My youngest and I were setting some stones near my garage and asked me to look behind the building to see what stones were there.  When I went behind the garage, this view greeted me across the neighbor's property.  I grabbed my phone and took this photo.  The fence just seemed to lead my eye through the autumn colors.   Autumn foliage on the trail This has been a crazy year - moving, surgeries, recovery, and just plain life getting complicated.  I want so much to get back out on the trails - but we've moved away from those trails, so it's no longer just a 5 minute trip to them - but a half-day affair.  Though still, I have many past photos to revel in while I get settled into what is around me. This is one of those shots that was made for fall.

  Autumn day across the fields  A trip just driving around - I saw this shot through the trees and had to pull off.  The autumn day was warm and the sky just perfect for a show like this. The hills, the clouds, the touch of autumn color - was nearly perfect.

  Sailing on the lake in autumn   The blue sky, the breeze blowing and the fall colors were in their glory. A perfect day for a sail on the lake.

  Country road in autumn   This photo is mine but taken some years ago during a particularly colorful autumn. I've seen scenes like this lately but haven't had the time to stop (sigh). Life is too busy and complicated. Enjoy the fall while it lasts!

  Sun rising over the field and trees Another shot from our road trip to South Carolina. The sun was just coming up over the trees.  I caught this show an liked how the sun seemed sandwiched between the clouds and the field with the trees in between. Layers of wonder.

  Just before dawn at the farm stand I saw this scene on the way to work.  The farm stand at a local tree farm was not open but the sun was rising and the fall flowers and pumpkins were out. This represented Autumn in the country to me.

  Autumn in the mountains of Virginia On my recent road trip to South Carolina we got an early start on the way home.  By the time we got to Virginia, the morning was well-on and the colors were blazing. We had just started to get into the mountains when I managed to get this shot from the car.

  Mist in the distance in the early morning on the road It's surprising, what you can see, when you're not driving. I caught this mist far ahead of us, on the way home. I believe the "mist" was from a worksite, but it still looked pretty cool to me, in the morning sunlight.

  Autumn colors on the road in the North Carolina mountains   In the mountains, on the way home, the autumn colors were, at times, just so brilliant and stood out against the blue skies. These colors are why I like autumn.

  Sunrise on the road A shot of sunrise while driving is always a good representation of what the views can be while going on a 1300+ mile  road trip for a one-day seminar.  A LONG few days but well worth the views and the people.

  Mountains in West Virginia On the road to a martial arts seminar in South Carolina from Pennsylvania.  Got some good company and beautiful days.  The autumn is starting to show in the mountain views of West Virginia.

  A touch of autumn on a dirt road Quite some years ago, this road was near our cabin. We walked this road many times, in all seasons - of the year and of our lives. Autumn was (and is) my favorite time of year. This road through the woods carries many good memories.

  Memories of beach days at Cape May Oh, for the simpler days, when all I worried about was if it was sunny or not, or if the wind was blowing the sand too hard. I remember the simple days on the beach (on vacation, of course), when the worries of life were simple ones.  I miss those days of sun, sand, easy breezes and salt air.

  Bits of autumn color along the rainy creek   It's been rainy for a few days without much opportunity to get out an take photos.  I thought I'd throw this one up from a similar time a few years ago. The color is what I'm seeing around here now, and I don't have to get wet to show it off. Hope you all enjoy it.

  Sun rising over the grassy fields I saw this view the other morning, where the wispy clouds seem to be coming from the sun rising. It was almost like smoke rising from the fires of the sun.  The grass in the foreground and the flat ground make it almost seem like I'm on another continent.

  Dawn breaking through the clouds Last week, I caught this photo of the sun breaking through the clouds. It was only there for one or two shots, and then it was gone. I really like the red edges to the clouds and the little spots of blue sky poking through.

  Autumn colors starting at the edge of the woods The colors are starting to show, especially at the edge of the woods - over the next few weeks, we'll see explosions of reds, yellows, oranges, and golds. This is one of my favorite times of the year. 

  Cloudy, misty sunrise   Yesterday morning, on the way to work, I saw the clouds and hoped for a good sunrise.  The clouds were really too thick to see the sun, but the colors, though muted, were beautiful.  I pulled off  the road and captured this view with the mist in the field and the trees overhead. A great start to my morning.
