Puffy clouds at sunrise   The morning I captured this, I had just taken it when a man stopped in his car to ask me a question. The first thing he did was excuse himself for getting in the way of my photo. I answered him by saying I take photos all the time and not to worry. I love taking photos, but people are more important. Enjoy beauty, but enjoy your relationships more.

Just before sunrise over the valley Some mornings are made to show off the creator's painting skills.  The other morning was one of those mornings. The clouds hung overhead, but the strip of open sky near the horizon meant a beautiful sunrise sky - and it did not dissappoint!

Full rainbow at sunrise! The sunrise colors came on but they were very brief.  While taking what shots I could, I was getting wet from rain. When I got to work, my wife texted me to look to the west - this view was there, a rainbow just as the sun had risen!  What a great start to the day!

Sunrise clouds rising with the sun Yesterday morning, the news showed a wonderful sunrise on their broadcast.  I wondered if we would see such a sight. I realize that their shot is from a broadcast tower, so from a much higher vantage point. I looked on my way to work and found that same sunrise (thought a few minutes later).

Spring sunrise through the trees in our backyard   On the first clear day in spring (yesterday) - the cool, clear blue sky gave way to a quiet, cloudless, sunrise. I happened to catch it from our back deck and decided I had to try to capture it.

Sunrise colors just getting started   Some mornings just aren't imbued with all the sky-wide brilliant colors - sometimes that just concentrate on one spot. The low clouds and blue sky kept this sunrise more subdued, but in my opinion, still very pretty.

Railroad tracks leading into the sunset This photo, taken a couple of weeks ago was stunning but I didn't get a chance to post it right away. With the rainy day yesterday, I thought it an opportune time to share it.

Sunset through the trees I was teaching in our karate school when I noticed the sun setting through the windows.  I had another instructor continue while I scooted outside for a couple of shots on my phone. This sky was worth the pause in training.

Sunrise between the buildings on campus   I got a text from my wife yesterday to look out my window at work. All I ever see is a wall, so I ran out  the rear entrance to our building and this sky greeted me. While I didn't have a spectacular valley or farm view, I'm very grateful for extra eyes helping me see the world.

Sunset light burning the clouds and keeping the hills in silhouette Sometimes, the best colors come after the sun sets. I was still out for an evening walk when this sky presented itself. The light in the sky seemed like it was catching the clouds on fire and everything that direction was thrown in to sillhouette.

Swaths of color just before sunrise The morning sky was bright red and had bands of gray and blue. This was taken at a very wide angle to capture that "big sky" feel. I felt small that morning against that "larger than life" sky.

Afternoon sun lighting up the clouds  The afternoon was very brisk and windy. The clouds went by quickly.  At one moment, a cloud obscured the afternoon sun but the light from the sun seemed to light up the sky despite clouds and lit the hills in bright blue.

Pastel sunrise sky There is something to be said for bright, brilliant orange and red sunrise skies. They catch the eye and make you look - but a soft pastel colored sky is subtle and soft - still just as beautiful, but more enticing.

Pre-dawn glow in the sky over the pond My wife looked out the window and saw the steel gray of the morning and said "you won't get much, this morning." I had to agree that it didn't look promising. I was in no hurry to leave for work. However, on the way, there was a bright spot in the sky that lit up - and I DID manage to get 2 shots before it went away.

Band of color at sunrise Yesterday morning, I looked out the window and saw just a gray sky.  When I got to my car, I saw an orange glow starting to form on the horizon   I quickly got in my car and within 5 minutes, the glow took over the eastern sky.  I managed to get a few shots - but within another 5 minutes, it was gone. I love to capture those fleeting moments.

Pretty afternoon sky across the valley Pretty afternoons are not to be missed, especially in last-winter / early spring. This view is a short walk from our home. The clouds just made the scene calm and peaceful - worthwhile.

Sunset colors and gray clouds There are evenings when you don't think anything will happen - and  then you go over a rise and the surprise colors of sunset show themselves.  I was fortunate to not be driving when this one showed itself, so I could nab a picture.

Morning clouds just before the dawn I read some advice for photographers that you should always "look around" at landscapes.  You are drawn to the light but see, also, where the light falls. This was one of those "look around" shots. The sunrise was captivating, but so was the other areas of the scene.

Late afternoon at the wood pile There are some scenes which you see, day after day, year after year, that you think "someday, I'll get a shot of that."  But there is never a convenient opportunity to get it. This is one of those scenes. I wanted to get a shot of this woodlot in the afternoon.  I've always been driving by with nowhere to stop.  That changed when we moved last year - now it's within walking distance, and I got a chance for a long walk and a shot.

Late afternoon view across the field Some days, I get tired of just sitting and working on project on my computer (whether paid or not).  So when that happens, I take a walk. Yesterday, late in the day, I walked down our row and caught this view on the way home. THe clouds were showing what was to be a nice sunset.

Sunshine just touching the trees There are moments when you look into the sunrise and there are moments when you turn around and see what glory is lit up by the rising sun. This time, the sun lit up the sky and was starting to bathe the scene in it's early red light. It was very pretty.

Shimmering early morning clouds Sometime, you get lucky and see the clouds shimmer just before the sunrise. The light seems to bounce in different directions through the layers of clouds. All the while,  the landscape lights up, in a fashion, with all the light being thrown about.

Early morning sun on the mill race   I've been trying to get this photo for some time. I wanted to get the sun rising right over a local mill race.  I was hoping for a lower sun, with more color, but you have to take what nature give you.  I'll try again in the autumn when the sun should pass by here again.  But this view is very pretty, in it's own way.

Clouds sweeping in just before the dawn The morning was cold and the sun hadn't even risen. It appeared that the clouds that were coming in might even prevent us from seeing the morning sun. The clouds were sweeping in and trying to blot out the colors - but the sunrise won out and we saw the colors and later, the sunrise.

Grasses arching in the sunrise Sometimes, there are beautiful clouds to go with a sunrise. Sometimes, the colors of the sky are such that you need to take a photo.  Sometimes, you have to find the details - this was a detail morning. The grasses were still in the cold morning air, ready for their debut.

Field, hills, and puffy white clouds   On a recent road trip - I was watching the farms go by. I happened to see a field where the rows were made perpendicular to the road and everything came together for one shot.

Sun rising over the farm and pond We've had some awesome sunrise skies this year. It was just light enough that I was able to catch the sunrise, the color reflecting in the pond and the farmhouse. Usually, it's too dark to see anything but shadows with the sunrise. I was blessed with this view.

Sunrise through the tall grass   Yesterday morning, I saw the weatherman show how pretty the sky was from their tower.  I looked out our window and decided to head out early to see what I could find for photos.  I got a good many but this took the prize. The sun was just peeking over the hill and silhouetted the grass. The sky was fiery orange and I got the shot. A good start to the morning.

Pinks and blues at the end of the day On a walk the other evening, the sun was setting but I spied these pink tinged clouds to the right of setting sun.  The colors were pink against the blue of the sky and clouds. A nice sunset palette.

Sunrise through the pines on a frosty morning Yesterday morning - it was very frosty. As I was scraping the frost from my windshield, I saw the sun starting to rise and believed that I would miss it on my drive to work.  I was mistaken.  The sun was just rising through the trees.  The sun shone through the branches and lit a bit of the frosty grasses.  It was chilly, but really worth it.

Road into the sunset sky Last evening, I decided to go for a walk to try to catch the sunset. There were cars everywhere. I managed to get a single shot of a small road in my neighborhood without a car (or truck) on it with the sunset sky. I liked the leading lines and the sky.
