      Photo of the Day 273/365  Sunset Reflections at the Lake I took this photo some weeks ago. The evening was calm after the sun had set and the colors were magnificent. The reflection of the trees and the sky made the image wonderful. This is a place I love to visit when I get the chance. Hope everyone's weekend is going great.

    Photo of the Day 272/365 Sunset in Kansas City I didn't post much from my business trip to Kansas City. Most of the time I was either in meetings or conference sessions, or it was later in the evening. I did get some photos, but on a walk with my co-worker on our last evening, we saw the sun was low with very few clouds. I found this composition and it was, by far, my favorite landscape I took while on the trip. The leading lines and the tiny glimpse of the sun made it great.

   Photo of the Day 271/365 Red-Tinged Sky after Sunset After a crazy night of bowling - my wife and I pulled over to try to see what was left of the setting sun. We pulled into a church parking lot and noted a number cars doing the same. All of use were just looking at the sunset sky .The sun had already set, but the view over the darkened valley was spectacular. The reds and yellows - and the lowest cloud almost looked like a mountain - just amazing.

    Photo of the Day 270/365  Sunset Sky over the Cornfield This photo was taken last week on one of my many sunset walks with my youngest. We were walking and discussing life and the issues of the day. I knew the sun had already gone down too far to see but the sky was blazing with streaks of clouds showing the sunset's color. I thought it was a cool shot.

  Photo of the Day 269/365 Afternoon Sunlight Lighting up the Trees  This photo ws was taken on a long afternoon walk.  Late in the walk, when the sun was starting it's downward slide, I noticed that the sunlight was streaming though the trees on the west side of the road.  I got to the far side of a clearing when I noticed these trees with brightly lit leaves and the white grasses in the foreground and the image was too good to pass up.

     Photo of the Day 268/365 Pink Sunset Sky across the Field I took this photo last week while out on a "quick walk" with my youngest. We both saw the shot and she asked me to take a photo. This was the result. I did not point the camera (phone) towards the setting sun but to the north - and the colors of the sunset lit up the sky in pretty pink. We both enjoyed the colors.

    Photo of the Day 267/365  Mist in the Valley Just before Dawn I took this photo on the way to work this week. The mist in the valley almost took my breath away. That mist coupled with the colors in the predawn sky was breathtaking. This year, to me, has been a particularly glorious year for sunrises and sunsets.

    Photo of the Day 266/365 Last Summer Sunset over the Hill  I took this photo while out to a local pub for dinner. The sky had shown promise but we had a long day and wanted to out to eat. I had taken a few "grab shots" out of the car window and they were OK but I hoped for more. When we got there, we parked and I looked up and saw this sight so I grabbed my phone, ran up to the higher parking lot and got this. Worth it.  

  Photo of the Day 265/365 Misty Sunrise Sky over the Valley This photo was taken a few days ago on my way to work. The mist has been prevalent due to the cooling temperatures and the low humidity. This has made for some really nice photos. This photo was taken on my iPhone and needed no editing - the image was perfect (to me) as is.  The mist was stronger than the photo portrays but the photo is still really good.  

    Photo of the Day 264/365 Sunrise Sky over the Misty Field I took this photo yesterday morning on the way to work. I made a couple of stops but this shot was at the first stop. The mist, the grassy field that was lit up in white, the sky's colors, the blue hills: they all made for a great (to me) landscape shot.  The sun was starting to just barely start on the right side of the horizon. This is one of my favorites for the year, so far.

  Photo of the Day 263/365 Sun Sliding Behind the Hill This photo was taken last evening on our way out to dinner. I had been having "technical" issues with my computer setup and when done, my wife suggested dinner out. This was taken from the moving car less than a mile from my home. The sunsets have been GREAT this year!    

    Photo of the Day 262/365 Sunset Among the Tall Grass I took this while out on another "sunset walk" last weekend. The sun was just setting through the grass of the field and the trees on the other side. I was standing on the roadside looking up into the field. The road is actually lower than the field so it was relatively easy to move to a spot that showed the setting sun this way. Summer is moving quickly and I can't wait for the autumn colors but I'll miss the warmth of summer.

  Photo of the Day 261/365 Soft Sunset Glow over the Trees and Fields I took this photo the other evening after all the glory of the sun setting. Sometimes, the afterglow of the sky is as colorful and exciting as the actual sunset. One should always look for the little views of light and color granted to us. While not as spectacular as some of my sunsets, I like the soft colors of this.    

    Photo of the Day 260/365 Sunset Lighting up the Trees  This photo, from a couple of days ago was one of my "hey, stop a minute, I see a picture" moments. I saw the sunset light lighting up these trees and the sun almost dead centered with the tree trunks. I HAD to take this one. The light was just too pretty.  The blue of the sky fading to the gold of sunset and the gold light in the leaves - this a good sunset.

  Photo of the Day 259/365  Sunset Sky over the Corn Field It took this photo at the very edge of the sunset. The sun was just going into the corn field and I could just barely capture it. The thin wisps of clouds were lit up by the setting sun. The view lasted just an instant but was worth it.

    Photo of the Day 258/365 Sun Rising through the Trees over the Field All of the elements of this photo, taken this week,  caught my eye. The framing of the sun just behind the pine tree. The sun just barely peeking through - the dew reflecting the sun shine. This one checked all the boxes for me. The only thing missing is awesome clouds - but you can't have it all. I missed the awesome clouds by about 10 minutes...but next time.

    Photo of the Day 257/365  Crack in the Sky at Sunset This photo from just two days ago was, again, the result of looking out our window, seeing a bright spot in the sky, and taking a quick walk. I missed the actual sunset but the resulting sky over the farm fields was quite beautiful. The small thin line of golden fire is where I got the idea of a "crack in the sky" with the subtle red tinges to the clouds around the crack made it even more dramatic, to me. I hope you like it.  

  Photo of the Day 256/365 Layers of Trees and Mist at Sunrise This photo was taken yesterday morning on the way to work. The sun had just risen as I pulled off the road into the wet grass. The dew was thick and the fog and mist hung over the fields, trees, and valleys. I pulled out the telephoto lens to try to capture the layers of light and shadow and I think this came out fairly well with the risen sun.

    Photo of the Day 255/365 Sunrise Through the Trees I took this photo last week on the campus of Messiah University, where I work. The sun happened to be coming  up just up the hill from where I park.  The clouds parted enough so that I could see sun peek through and this shot appeared (well, I DID have to move a bit to get it). The clouds, the rays of light and the sun shining through the trees made the shot spectacular.

  Photo of the Day 254/365 Country Road at Sunset  This photo was taken last weekend. We went out for a drive and coming down the hill, I was cursing the power lines (despite the utility, they ruin many photos) - and I noted that the sun was aabout to set and I wanted the view of this barn wiht the fence from the orchard. I managed to move to get the power lines out of the way but the sun just blew through the photo. Despite the harsh light, I really like this shot.

   Photo of the Day 253/365  Reflecting the Predawn Sky over a Foggy Field We were on a road trip yesterday and we were noting how nice the sky looked from the restaurant window. When we were leaving, I decided to try to capture the view and this was one of two shots I managed to get - the other was deleted but this one captured what we saw.

Photo of the Day 252/365 Burnished Sunrise through the Trees This photo, taken a couple of days ago, was lucky. I saw the sun rising through the clouds and managed to get to three different locations and capture different views of the sun rising. The locations were only perhaps 1/2 mile apart but the opportunity provided to me was not to be passed up. The clouds, in this one just let the sun peek through and the trees framed the image nicely.

     Photo of the Day 251/365 Glorious Summer Sunrise  Yesterday was a wonderful day for sunrise photos - managed three different locations (in about 10 minutes) for multiple great shots of the rising sun.  This one was really special with the rays of the sun streaming out over the clouds and sky. The phrase I used in the title, "Glorious", just seems to fit this photo.

  Photo of the Day 250/365 Misty Summer Sunrise   This photo, shot last week, was taken on my way to work. I could not believe my luck with the mist rising from the field grass in the far valley. All that with the sun rising through the morning clouds. It was an easy morning to get a good shot and a great start to the day.

  Photo of the Day 249/365 Last Slice of the Sun I wanted to go for a drive last evening at sunset. My wife and child accompanied me and we tried many different back roads and did catch a number of different views of the setting sun, but this one caught my eye the most. Due to the summer haze (or the continuing wildfires) the sky was showing vivid color bands and the last slice of the sun as it dipped behind the hills just got to me. 

Photo of the Day 243/365 Sunset Across the Neighborhood I took the photo this past weekend. I couldn't decide when to post it. The sun setting against the streaks of clouds in the blue sky made for a very pretty sunset. The neighbor's tree added a bit of interest to the scene as well. The day after I took it, it tied (in my mind) for the the shot that I posted. I hope you enjoy this scene as much as I did.

  Photo of the Day 247/365  Hidden Summer Sunrise This photo, taken about a week ago, was on my way to work. The sun had already risen but was hidden by the morning clouds. I really liked the red band at the bottom of the clouds, making me think of sunrises past when that was the harbinger of the rising sun. The bright colors in the rest of the sky makes you remember that the sun WAS up and lighting up the rest of the sky.

  Photo of the Day 246/365 The Edge of Sunset at the Lake   This photo taken this past weekend was just too good to pass up. There was no "real" sunset but the clouds gathered for little soiree after the sun had set and provided some color to the sky. I loved the calm water that allowed the reflections of the coming evening sky. THIS was the great ending to the day.

  Photo of the Day 245/365 Clear Calm Day's End at the Lake When you're walking at the lake at the end of the day, you hope for a gorgeous sunset. Last evening, there was not a cloud in the sky, so no dramatic sunset. But, I tried top make the best of the colors in the sky by working with the water reflections and adding some non-sky interest in the photo.  It WAS a cool, calm, beautiful evening with very few bugs and few people, despite the holiday weekend. A really nice night.

  Photo of the Day 244/365 Late Summer Sky just after Sunrise   I took this photo on the way to work yesterday morning. I saw a beautiful sunrise on the "TV" that morning and thought I might have a chance at a good photo.  While I did not get the brilliant colors they showed (hey, they're shooting from a tower and quite a bit earlier than I am) - I did manage to get a very pretty sky shot. No complaints here - I needed it - it was a rough couple of days at work and this was a great start to the day.
