Quitet Place for an Autumn Sunset Photo of the Day 304/365 I took this photo last weekend and was unsure whether I liked it or not. It wasn't my normal sunset photo but I thought I 'd try to get another view, another angle, and include other things in the frame. I'd taken a different view of this scene, but I thought maybe with the setting sun it would be good. The more I looked at it, the more I liked it - so here it is.

Amazing Colors Just Before Dawn Photo of the Day 303/365 Yesterday monring seemed a clear, but bland, morning when I left for work. However, nature has a way a springing surprises on me. When I came around a bend in the road, I saw these clouds just near the horizon. I pulled off the road and by the time I got out of the car, the colors had started to gather near the horizon. This view was with the widest lens I had and I really like how the colors go from bright orange to the dark blue of the receding evening.

Autumn Comes to my Backyard Photo of the Day 302/365 We had some work done at our home yesterday and when I got back from work, I decided to go out and inspect the work. When I went on the back deck, I saw the sunlight making our backyard light up with the colors of autumn (finally). I saw some oranges and yellows and had to grab a few shots before the rains came (today). Hopefully, we won't lose all the leaves, but with the pending remnants of a hurricane, I'm not very optimistic.  I'll take this, though.

Autumn Colorful Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 301/365 This photo was taken a couple of days ago and I'd have posted it the next day, except that I had already picked my photo for the day - so it had to wait until now. I went out for my (somewhat) normal walk and hoped to get some sunshine through autumn colors but missed it - and almost missed the sunset, because it keeps getting earlier. I did catch this magnificent sky, though, so I can't complain.

Autumn on a Country Road Photo of the Day 300/365 While out running an errand yesterday afternoon, my wife decided to take a few back roads rather than the most direct route. When we rounded one particular bend int he road I asked her to slow down so I could get a photo. She did and this was the result. I like the way the road leads you into the woods in their autumn colors. The colors, this year, seem very muted, so I take what I can get.

 Autumn Colors in he Sun at the Lake Photo of the Day 299/365 This photo, take a few years ago, is very close to the optimal autumn photo, for me. It was taken on a relatively warm autumn day, when I was hiking (when I had time to hike) in the sunlight of the afternoon, in the glory of the autumn colors. It was an almost perfect day. The warmth, the quiet of the woods and lake, and the brilliance in the foliage. What could be better.

Wonderful Autumn Sky Photo of the Day 298/365 I took this photo last evening. I was alone in the house and decided to try to time it right to get a sunset walk in. Well, due to the hill that is to the west of us, I misjudged the time by about 3-5 minutes. I saw the sunset as I was walking to my location, but due to the hill and the clouds, I missed it. Well, the after-sunset sky was pretty aswesome anyway, don't yout think?  I know I think so.

Beautiful Autumn Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 297/365 I took this photo a few weeks ago on one of my photo walks. The sky was fantastic that evening and I took many photos - too many to post in one day, so I spread them about. When I get too many, I use them when I have periods when I can't get out at the right times to photograph. My time, and the skies haven't been too conducive to photos in the past few days, so enjoy this one from days recently past.

Clouds at the Edge of Sunrise Photo of the Day 296/365 This photo was pulled from my archives from about a month ago. I just loved the sky in this shot and decided to post it. The colors that the sun is creating with the clouds, the sunrays just coming up into the blue and the spliky trees all come together for me. 

 A Touch of Autumn Color Photo of the Day 295/365 I took this photo on the way home from work yesterday. The weather was on-and-off cloudy all day and I was stuck inside working. On my drive home, I spotted this tree, by itself, showing off it's color. The colors, this year, are muted and not very plentiful, so I'll take what I can get. I was able to get this one in a bit of sun before the clouds came back and I'm happy with how it turned out.

Autumn on a Back Trail Photo of the Day 294/365 This photo is from my archives. I took it last year on our trip to western PA for a visit to Fallingwater. We were driving about there when we came upon a pull-off with a trail down to a waterfall. This was the trail down to that waterfall. I really liked the sunlight streaming over the hill and through the autumn leaves and how the fence and trail lead your eye down into the photo.

Sun Cutting Through the Morning Mist Photo of the Day 293/365 I took this photo about a month ago but liked the other images I got that morning a little better than this one. The other places fit my mood and desire those days and this one sat in my camera roll.  However, when I looked again, I decided that it fit my most recent mood. A dark, foggy morning, but with a hope that the sun will burn off the dreariness and light up the day.

Old Barn in Autumn Photo of the Day 292/365 I took this photo a couple of weeks ago on a road trip to central PA. I managed to see a few red trees behind an old barn by the road. I've taken many "travelling" photos of this barn but I always manage to get telephone poles or weeds or something in front of it. This time, the photo muses were with me and I could capture the barn and the autumn colors together.

Wild Sky Just After Sunset Photo of the Day 291/365 This photo was taken a few days ago when my wife and I were out to run some errands. We had just left the house and were heading out to the main road. We saw this and I actually took it from our windshield. The sun had just set and the bright yellow as just at the top of the hill. The cloud above just lit up with color, but darkness and shadow, too. I could not help but grab this photo. 

Brilliant Morning Clouds Phot of the Day 290/365 I took this photo two mornings ago. The sky looked clear (and cold) but as I drove to work, I saw these wonderful clouds near the horizon. I stopped my care and took a few photos. The "big sky" ones came out ok, but the ones zoomed into the horizon highlighted the beautiful reds and golds in the clouds. I could not stay for the sunrise, but I could see it coming.

Sunset Sky and Power Lines Photo of the Day 289/365 I took this photo two days ago after I had already selected my photo of the day. The sky was wonderful. We were running about for some errands and saw the sunset coming and I got a few shots. However, we were detoured due to a town's parade and I saw these flaming red colors and we drove to a cul-de-sac in a housing development and this view was there - the leading lines, the framing, the COLORS - it was almost too good. It only lasted a short bit but was definitely worth it.

Another Dawn Sky on the Creek Photo of the Day 288/365 I took this photo last week but it was so close to another similar shot that I decided to hold off posting to give photos time to set. In many ways, I love my workplace - the scenery can be very beautiful and I try to take advantage of it. But as I get closer and closer to retirement, I can't wait for the time and space to enjoy and explore other places.

Sunset Sky down the Road Photo of the Day 287/365 I took this photo this past weekend on our way to try to run some errands. I took the out of the front window of the car. That's when my wife asked me if we should go for a drive before our errands to try to get some better shots. While we did get some nice shots elsewhere, I kind of like this one. The sun had just set and the brright yellow was still on top of the hill and the power lines give nice leading lines into the shot.

Fog over the Field at Sunrise Photo of the Day 286/365 This photo is from my archives. I have plenty of colorful sunsets that I have yet to post, but this one, taken about 12 years ago - bubbled up and I just couldn't pass it by. I love how the fog laid over the field grasses, the trees, and the sun barely coming out of the clouds. The photo is too good not to post before the full rush of autumn colors begin.

Wild Sunset Sky and Deep Blue Hills Photo of the Day 285/365 Last evening, after a cloudy, dreary day, I wasn't expecting much for a sunset sky. I looked out the front window of our home and saw some color and decided to take a chance. I went out for a sunset walk and made it into the neighbor's field and this view hit me. The super bright colors only lasted a few shots, but I took advantage and grabbed what I could. The balance of color between the reds and the blues (sky AND hills) was just outstanding - I am SO glad I went for that walk.

Puffy Clouds and Cool Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 284/365 We went out to pick up some adult beverages and some sandwiches for dinner. We had trouble deciding what to eat so we were relaxed but running a bit behind. When we got to the car, the part of the sky I saw had no clouds - but as we drove, I saw some clouds forming near the sun that had set. I asked my wife to pull off into a parking lot at a local warehouse and this view presented itself. I only got about 4 or 5 shots before the color faded. I love these colors!!

Fiery Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 283/365 I did take this photo a few weeks ago but it's been sitting in my caamera roll, waiting it's turn to be posted. I loved the colors in the sky - the fiery reds and the deep blue - but I also likethe sillhouettes of the field grass reaching up into that sky. The reason I likely didn't post it before is the hill in the bottom left - it just seems to need  a balance on the other side - but so be it - I like the rest.

 Sunset Along the River Photo of the Day 282/365 This photo waws taken a last week. We had taken my youngest to a service in Harrisburg (she doesn't care to drive any more than necessary). We had just picked her after the service.  The sun had set and on the way down Front Street, I took a whole lot of photos trying to find a good scene (as as were driving, of course).  For all the photos I took I only found one worth keeping and this is it. I acttually like the movment in the foreground and the sharp details in the mid- and background. The clouds and color sure don't hur either.

Dawn Sky above the Pines Photo of the Day 281/365 When I left the house, I thought that the sky, though clear, would just be, "a boring sky". When I got a little closer, I saw the gather clouds near the horizon and as I neared one of my favorite spots, the sky opened and I found a wonderful sky and the pine trees below. The glow of the sunlight on the clouds and the colors only lasted for 6 shots and then faded - but I - got - six - shots - before it went away.

Lone Bird Feeder in a Misty Field Photo of the Day 280/365 Yesterday morning, on my morning drive, I saw the fog - it was hard to miss.  When I got to one of my best spots, I saw the faint color in the sky and almost passed this by. However, I sawy the layers of mist and decided to try for a photo. When I stopped, I saw this lonely bird feeder in the middle of the field, surrounded by mist and zoomed in until I could get it. The ksy isn't glorious, but the mood that is told is what this one is about.

Quiet Place on a Warm Autumn Eve Photo of the Day 279/365 Last evening, I went out for a sunset searching walk. I thought my daughter would join me but decided to back out, so I went alone. The sun's position on the horizon has changed, so I had to quickly change my walk, to try to catch the sunset.  Well, I missed it by 5-10 minutes, but found, in my neighbor's backyard, this scene, still lit by the fading sunset light. I really like how they've set everything up for a nice evening place to relax.

Brilliant Sky and Blue Hills Photo of the Day 278/365 I took this photo this past week and it was on an evening where I was at multiple locations with some very wonderful sunset skies. The spot where I took this photo was in the rear parking lot of a church that overlooks this fantastic vista. We shared the space with some folks with their dog just sitting and sharing some food and another lady who was trying to capture the sunset. It was a great night for sunsets.

 Dawn at the Creek Photo of the Day 277/365 On my way to work last week, the sky was just right.  It had clouds, and that grant golden hue I love so much - and the colors reflected in the water. I see this scene every workday morning - some days it is very pretty - on other days, just another scene on the way to work. I suppose attitudes, emotions, being tired and many other things come into play, but one this day, it all came together for a really nice shot.

Cool Sunrise and Mist on the Pond Photo of the Day 276/365 Yesterday monring, it was the first really cool morning of the Autumn season. As I drove to work, I wondered why I didn't wear a coat. The air was crisp and the sunrise sky was beautiful and colorful, but the clouds were such that my usual places just didn't work. I came upon a farm pond on which the mist was rising in the most ethereal way. I had to capture it. It was a very pretty start tot the day.

Windswept Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 275/365 This photo was taken a few nights ago. I was asked to drive my daughter on an errand after work. I was not thrilled with the idea as it had been a busy day and a 40 mile drive was not what I wanted to do.  I also knew I wouild miss the sunset. Except that I managed pull off on one of my known spots to catch the post-sunset sky on our way home. It wasn't the best location, but I liked how the clouds look like they are being swept and scattered by the wind and the colors don't hurt either.

Spreading Sunset Sky over the Field Photo of the Day 274/365 Last weekend was an outstanding weekend for sunrises and sunsets and, as I've mentioned in a couple of prior posts, I took full advantage and went to multiple locations to capture what I could. This photo was taken away from the sunset and shows the wild sky that was all around. Something about this dug-up field and the sky just caught my eye and I really like how it came out.
