    Soft Sunset Sky over the Field Photo of the Day 152/366 This photo was taken some time after the sun had set and the wonderful sunset colors had started to fade. I wanted to try to capture the light still remaining on the grassy field and the soft colors on the clouds. The band of colors were not sharp as they sometimes are but soft and gentle. A different ending to the day.    

      Late Afternoon Sky over the Grassy Field Photo of the Day 151/366 I took this photo last weekend while out on a walk trying (as almost always) to catch a view, usually fora sunset. Our neighboring farm house is for rent so no one is living there, so I thought I would use their backyard to get a new view of the area. I walked up beneath a large tree in the yard and found this view. I like the overhanging branches with the grassy field and the orange tinged later afternoon sky. I did get sunset photos on this walk but those would be later.      

  Sunset Sky Spreading its Wings Photo of the Day 150/366 This photo was taken last evening. The sun hadn't set at that point but was hidden by a cloud bank. I really liked how the clouds seem to emanate and spread from a single location. It looked, to me, like the spreading of wings. The colors were quite outstanding and I took advantage as I could to capture them.    

  Sunset, Clouds, Ray, and Shadows Photo of the Day 149/366 I took this photo over this past weekend. We had a number of wonderful sunsets over the weekend. The clouds had just cleared over the trees as were out for a walk. The sun peeked out and I noted the sun casting shadows and showing its rays over the glorious sky. As I told my youngest, the "oranges" were not quite there yet, but the sky itself made up for it.

      Memorial Day for Those who Gave it All Photo of the Day 148/366 This photo was taken on one of our trips to St. Louis, Missouri. We were getting a tour of the old State Capitol and I looked up to see this HUGE flag hung from the rotunda. The flag is a historical one with the number of stars that were there when this building was the state capitol. The lighting and the colors, and the sheer size of this flag, really made the photo pop for me. I'm not political, but in the USA, I hope we all remember those who gave their lives to protect our freedom.        

      Final Shaft of Sunset Light Photo of the Day 147/366 I took this shot two nights ago on a whim.  My youngest reminded me that the "oranges" were upon us and that I should get out there. So, after 3 walks for the day, I worked my way across the street, and seeing my neighbor wasn't home - I went into his back yard to catch this wonderful end-of-day shot of the sunset.  

    Late Afternoon Sun Peaking through the Clouds  Photo of the Day 146/366 I had the day off yesterday and went for a number of walks, but my youngest wanted to walk in the late afternoon for a sunset walk. I explained that  there needs to be a lead time so you can get the whole "experience".  This is such an example. The clouds, trees, and sun were just magic - and I'm fortunate to catch them. 

          Sunset on the Hill between the Trees Photo of the Day 145/366 After chorus practice last evening, at our church, I noticed the sun setting and I grabbed my new camera (new to me, anyway) and grabbed this photo of the sun just setting on hill. I got a Sony RX100-VI and so far, it is proving to be very good at what I need - something easy to carry but good enough to get the photos I want. This sunset capped off a very chaotic but good day. I'm off today and going to go out and really give my new camera a proper workout.        

      Sunset along the Road Photo of the Day 144/366 I took this photo two days ago while my wife was driving home from a seminar. I saw the sun setting and we were coming down a country lane and I asked her if anyone was behind us. She said "no" and then "where do you want me to stop?"  I indicated  a clearing and we stopped.  I had time for 3 shots and this the best.    

    Field, Hills, and Streaks of Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 143/366 This photo, taken earlier this year, fascinated me. I took a number of versions of this photo and this one came out well. The stubble of the previous years' crops with the sunset light just touching, grabbed my attention.  Getting the image to come out right was a bigger challenge as the exposure just didn't work. This image was the best of the bunch and still took a bit of editing to make it what I wanted. These rhododendrons had been planted in between the trees in the neighbor's yard. From the road, they looked like nature had just put them there. Although I'm pretty sure it was intentional, I still thought they were beautiful in...

      Pink Tinged Sunset Clouds Over the Spring Field Photo of the Day 142/366 This photo was taken some few years ago at a church that is very near to where I live. The tree in the center of the frame was one of my "favorite" trees for some time. I shot it in all seasons and have posted it many times. The way that the tree sat almost as a sentry atop the hill just grabbed me. Today, that tree is still there, but there are homes surrounding it as the farmer sold off lots and the farm disintegrated into another development. These clouds were just beautiful and they bring back good memories.    

      Old Barn in the Afternoon Photo of the Day 141/366 This photo was taken last fall on our road trip to northeastern Pennsylvania. We were on the road trying to get to the hotel before nightfall and I saw this shot coming from a distance. I tried to take a number of photos but most didn't come out due to other cars and wires.  This was the best of the shots.  

    Sunset Colors Despite the Clouds Photo of the Day 140/366 This phot was taken earlier this year. I loved the grass up up in the field and the colors just fading despite the clouds - just painting the edge of the sky. The colors did not show, that day, until the very end. It had been a very gray day. The colors only lasted a few brief minutes before the clouds got their way and the sky became gray again.    

    Afternoon Rain Clouds over the Field Photo of the Day 139/366 This photo was taken a couple of weekends ago. We had had many dreary rainy days and we went for a drive. We saw a break in the clouds and drove to a spot we knew would have a chance at a nice view. The spot didn't disappoint and the sky broke for a short time and I was able to gather a couple of photo. This was one of the best.  

Peaceful Sunrise over the Valley Photo of the Day 138/366 This photo was taken earlier this year on my way to work. The day was warm and the sky had just a wonderful tone to it. The air was still and there was only the sound of cars on the distant highway. The birds were awake and making morning sounds. It was a peaceful stop on the way to work.     

    Late Afternoon aqt the Beach Photo of the Day 137/366 Thursday is for for memories (or "throwbacks") and this is a good memory. I remember taking a later afternoon (or early evening) walk down to the beach when we were in Cape May just to see what was there. I found a beautiful scene with the lifeguard's chair, a small boat, and a gull, all positioned for me - I was very lucky that afternoon.  

        Dawn About to Break at the Pond Photo of the Day 136/366 This photo, from last year, depicts a scene I see quite often. There is a farm with a pond and I love to see the different views throughout the year. In the spring, the sun is in a different location from this, though. However, going through some photos last night, this one just said it needed to be posted today. Too pretty not to.      

      Misty Morning in the Deep Woods Photo of the Day 135/366 This photo was taken a number of years ago, when we still had our cabin. Our cabin was a place of refuge for our young family. It was situated on the side of a mountain and this was the view from the back window. This morning view was in the spring after a rainy night. The mist and dew were heavy and the woods were silent. Peaceful.  

Thin Line of Sunset Clouds at Day's End Photo of the Day 134/366 Yesterday was Mother's Day here in the US and we spent it in the hospital with our youngest. She had surgery a bit ago and had had some bleeding and needed blood transfusions. We were there the entire day and just gave support. This view greeted us as we were finally leaving the hospital. A hopeful end to the day.  

Small Break in a Rainy Day Sky Photo of the Day 133/366 I took this photo last evening. The past few days have been very dreary and rainy. There was no chance (in our local area) to see the Northern Lights as clouds and rain set in and are still here... But last evening, there was a small break in late afternoon. I took advantage and while out on a errand, I caught this photo.    

Before Dawn at the Misty Lake Photo of the Day 132/366 This photo was taken at a local state park on a cool, misty morning. The dark sky lit up just before the sun rose and I was able to be at the right place at the right time to capture this image. I remember the mist softly rising from the water and the quiet of the morning. I remember how the colors lit up the surrounding trees and even light up my skin. It was a very peaceful, even lovely, scene and time.        

      Morning Sun Breaks Through Over the Valley Photo of the Day 131/366 I saw this scene yesterday morning on the way to work. With the onset of summer, sunrises are almost impossible to catch.  I should say, I'm usually doing my morning routine while the sun is rising - not that I couldn't alter my routine, but no. Anyway, I saw this scene that almost looked like a sunrise with the gold colors at the horizon and ths blue sky above.  Then the sun broke through the clouds and I had to stop and take the picture.      

    Soft Sunset Clouds over the Hills Photo of the Day 130/366 I was watching the sky during our classes last evening and the sky was OK but not spectacular. I continued working and teaching. After class, though, the clouds were lit softly but very colorful and pretty. On the way home, I decided to stop and try to capture some of that beauty. I stopped on a side street, in town, with a view of the hills - and it was great for this photo. I hope you enjoy.  

    Sunset Sky over the Green Field Photo of the Day 129/366 This photo was taken last evening. We had gone out to dinner and were warned of the coming rain storms. I had no hopes or allusions to a sunset or a nice sky. When we were almost home, I noticed that there was a break in the clouds and maybe we'd see a nice (nicer than gray) sky for moment. As we got even closer to home, the colors opened up and I decided to take a side road and found this view of the waning sunset colors over a green field. It topped off the day nicely.        

Beautiful Wild Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 128/366 This photo was taken two years ago and was a good memory from then. When a great sunset happens, and one takes many photo, not all can be posted / displayed right away. Some are similar, but in some ways different and the tendency is to post the "best" immediately, but I go back and find little things that make a photo special and post them later. This one, with the "crack" of sunlight near the horizon, is one of those. That "crack" of light, goes into the clouds below, and really lights up the clouds above. I really like this one.      

    Murky Sunset over the Hill Photo of the Day 127/366 This photo was taken in our neighbor's yard sometime in the last few weeks. The sunset looked quite gloomy and I thought I would not get a shot when the clouds separated for a brief few moments and I was able to grab some photos. The sun was out for perhaps one or two moments and then back into the clouds.  

      Rain Coming across the Valley Photo of the Day 126/366 This photo was taken a few weeks ago but is very representative of the past couple of days. The rain comes and goes. and this photo, taken from a local country road, shows the rain as it comes across the hills and valley towards us. I may not have the ocean at my fingertips, but the countryside here is beautiful, too.  

      Soft Sunset through the Pine Boughs Photo of the Day 125/366 I love the sky and love how nature makes the colors so vibrant many time at sunset and sunrise. I also truly love to capture those brief moments in time and share them. This sunset was taken in my neighborhood while out on a sunset walk with my child. I noticed the setting sun but wanted something to add interest and I chose a particular gap in the neighbor's trees and took advantage - it thought it provided an ice frame for the image.      

Old Country Land and Bridge Photo of the Day 124/366 This photo was taken a number of years ago while on a tourist-type train ride in the upper-entral part of Pennsylvania. The old steam train travels the old tracks and this bucolic view as taken from the train window. Except for the road sign, this could have been taken 50 or even 100 years ago - or it could have been taken in the valleys of Europe. It makes me nostalgic for what the past of our countryside would have looked like.      

Sky after Sunset over the Field Photo of the Day 123/366 I took this photo a few weeks ago. The sun had set minutes before and as many times happens, the sky afterwards is much more colorful than the actual sunset. In this case, I was almost too late. The sun had set and the sky's color were fading. I managed to catch the sky with the blue of the hills and the green fields, though.  

      Last Minute Sunset Sky over the Field Photo of the Day 122/366 This photo, though taken earlier in the year, reminded me very much of the sky I saw (barely) last evening. The clouds had taken over the sky all afternoon and I had little hope for any sunset so I did other duties around the house. I looked out and noticed the sunset sky burning the edge of the sky and disappear in a flash.
