Old Barn Against an Autumn Hill Photo of the Day 305/366 This photo is, in reality, very old - in today's terms. It was taken by my father, in my teen years, on film. The image is likely 45-50 years old and I know it's from northern Pennsylvania (where I grew up). My father may not have been the best person, but he did many things for me, including introducing me to photography with images like this. After his passing, I scanned in and edited a large number of his images, this was one of them - his vision still holds strong today.

Sun about to Rise among the Pines and Ghostly Grasses Photo of the Day 304/366 This photo was taken about a month ago on my way to work. I just caught the sun getting to rise among the trees in the distance and you can barely see it. I also loved the colors in the clouds on that morning. It was a warm morning and the "ghostly grasses" dimly lit by the sky helped the mood.

Up the Street through an Autumn Tunnel Photo of the Day 303/366 I took this photo this past weekend on our way home. We stopped at the small town of Ohiopyle which is, as it were, attached to Ohiopyle State Park. During that part of the trip, the leaves were in full beauty and autumn was peaking. I happened to see this view of a street that was overhung with the autumn gold colors of the trees. I had to get a shot because it looked like a tunnel - a beautiful tunnel.

Sweeping Vista behind Kentuck Knob Photo of the Day 302/366 On our mini-vacation to western PA, we stopped at 3 Frank Lloyd-Wright homes, Fallingwater (poasted yesterday), Ploymath Park (which consisted of 4 homes), and Kentuck Knob. While all the homes were amazing in their detail and architectural marvel, the fact that Wright wanted to put the homes "in nature" was amazing. This view behind Kentuck Knob was fabulous. I can't imaging waking up and seeing this view - just breathtaking.

Autumn View of Falling Water Photo of the Day 301/366 This photo was the highlight of out western Pennsylvania trip. My wife and I have visited many Frank Lloyd-Wright homes and this is, to us, quintessential home of Frank Lloyd-Wright's architecture. We were here 4 years ago at the end of Covid, and could not get in. This time, we got the full tour and it did not disappoint. We also saw Polymath Park which also has some Lloyd-Wright homes and tomorrow, on to Kentuck-Knob where there is another.

Sunset Sky on the Road Photo of the Day 300/366 This photo was taken yesterday on a quick 3-day holiday that my wife and I are taking to western-Pennsylvania to see some home designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd-Wright.  The sky was clear and the air cool and my wife opted to drive (on back roads) so I could take photos. This photo was taken on our way to dinner from our hotel.  The day had clouded up so I didn't think there would be a sunset - I was wrong - and the added car at sunset gave more interest.

Autumn View of a Waterfall Photo of the Day 299/366 This photo is actually a photo gleaned from my father-in-laws camera. When he moved into a nursing facility, we had to go through many of his belonging.  As many folks do (as I INTEND to do) when they retire, he and his wife traveled. When I looked onto his memory card, this was one of the photos and I thought it was too pretty not to post - but I have to give him the credit.

Autumn Finery by the Lake Photo of the Day 298/366 This photo was taken a couple of years ago at our local State Park's lake. I had been lucky to be able to be hiking around the lake in the late afternoon. The sun was shining on a blue-sky puffy-cloud day and caught the sun gleaming on these yellow trees with the golds across the lake and the little remaining green grass in the water. This photo brings make memories when I could drive 5 minutes and be at spots like this.

Autumn View over the Field Photo of the Day 297/366 This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago while out on a long afternoon walk. That day, the weather was just about perfect. The temperature was cool enough to wear a jacket, but warm enough to make walking comfortable. I took this while looking at a field through the brush on the side of the road. I just marvel at the simplicity of a farm field in autumn - especially in our area, the rolling hills, the peaceful days - a great day.

Sun Shining through the Fall Trees Photo of the Day 296/366 This photo is representative of the weather these past few days - clear blue skies and autumn colors coming on. I've been a bit busy to take walks at lunch to I decided to pull this one out of my archives and re-post it. The colors, the warmth of the sunshine, the wonderful days of autumn. I hope you all get out to enjoy the weather.

Sunset Through the Tall Grass Photo of the Day 295/366 I took this photo yesterday afternoon. The sky again was without clouds, but the autumn air was still and cool so I decided to go out for a walk. Just as the sun was setting, I was seeing it going down behind a hill and the light was filtering through a field of tall grass. I thought to lower myself so that the sunlight shone through even more and this shot was the result. I like how the light even filters through the closer grass and makes the sun appears bigger.

Autumn Sunset Shining over the Fields Photo of the Day 294/366 I finally got out for a photo walk last evening and was a little disappointed that there were only wisps of clouds in the sky. That should not have surprised me as we had a warm, clear day. However, as we walked, I noticed the sun, just before it set, behind a tree and the way the sunlight lit up the fields and grasses. I grabbed a few frames before the light changed and this was the best shot.

Sunset over Farm Country Photo of the Day 293/366   I took this photo some time ago when we were visiting some Old-Order Amish friends in Lancaster. I caught the sunset as we were getting ready to leave and marveled at how it light up the farms in a golden hue. The sun reflecting on the road in the foreground gave the eye something other than darkness so I really liked that, too. Hope your days is as good as I felt when I took this photo.

Memories of Beach and Blue Sky Photo of the Day 292/366 This photo was taken from my archives. I miss the ocean, the surf, the sand, the sounds and all that comes with being near the ocean. I only get to spend about one week per year in an area of the country that allows me to feel that coast. I revel in it, but when I leave, I miss it all the more. This scene has memories attached of Cape May, Cape Cod, and to a lesser extent, Maine. In my mind, I know just what's over that hill - I can hear the waves and the seagulls. Wish I was there - now.

Misty Dawn over the River Photo of the Day 291/366 This photo was pulled from my archives. When I took this photo, I was on a bus, headed for work in our capitol city. In the original photo - there were reflections of the bus lights which "ruined" the photo.  With today's technology and know-how, I was able to remove those reflections and now the photo is very usable, It shows the beauty I saw that morning.

Brilliant Sunset Photo of the Day 290/366 This photo was taken earlier this summer and I never got around to editing or posting it. I was going through my summer photos and decided to edit and post it. It was a beautiful sunset with sun rays, sunlit clouds, and the light falling on the grass in the foreground. It stood out and demanded to be posted.

Autumn Colors on the Road Photo of the Day 289/366   I took this photo over the weekend. I was out for a long walk and spotted this scene where much of the foliage was turning. We're still in process as most of the trees are still showing mostly green so I'm hoping I get man more opportunities to take "fall foliage" photos. Autumn is my favorite season!

Sweeping Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 288/366 I took this photo last evening after a quick shopping trip and dinner with my wife. We were taking back roads on the way home and when we topped a particular hill, this view came into our sights. I asked her to stop and, after ensuring it was safe, asked her to turn off the lights. The sun had set, but the sky still had fiery color and the clouds seemed to sweep across the sky away from the sunset. It was very pretty.

Sun Shining through the Autumn Woods Photo of the Day 287/366 I took this photo last weekend while out on a walk. I noticed the sun shining through the woods in a spot near to our home. I worked more than a few angles to try to remove other trees and branches to capture just this group of trees with the sun shining in behind them. The transition from summer greens to autumn oranges and golds is what the start of Autumn is all about.

Aurora over the Valley Photo of the Day 286/366 I took this photo 2 nights ago. One of my students had messaged me during class (he was home sick) and sent pictures of the aurora. I asked him where he was and he said I should go outside. I could not get out right then (but should have), but had to wait until my wife picked me up. I told her about his message so we went on some back roads until I saw this in the sky. This is the best image I could come up with. Someday, I'll see the "northern lights" again.

Sweeping Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 285/366 The weekend that we returned from our Maine vacation, I remember having my wife tell me, "look at that sky." I almost always follow her lead. I hadn't expected a sunset sky, but I got one. I managed to take enough photos out of the car window that I got one "in the clear". This was the result - I missed the actual sunset, but this conveys the beautiful sky.

Autumn Colors in the Sunshine Photo of the Day 284/366 This photo was taken a number of years ago when we had our cabin in the woods. I loved that place for the solitude, the nature, the disconnection, and the sheer beauty.  Autumn is already one of my favorite times, but when I can get up, go for a walk in the woods and see the sun shining through the autumn leaves with the crisp air and blue skies, it doesn't get much better.

Autumn Colors by the Creek Photo of the Day 283/366 I took this photo this past weekend while out on a long afternoon walk. I knew that I wouldn't make it out later, so I went when I could. After crossing a bridge, I noticed this scene down the creek a bit. The colors in the sunlight were just shouting AUTUMN!  I know these color won't last long and where I live, they are just coming on, so I hope to capture many before it passes into the colder months.

Misty Morning in the Valley Photo of the Day 282/366 It was very foggy yesterday morning and while it was supposed to be a nice day, it sure did not appear that way when I left. However, when I came to the top of a local hill, this view greeted me. I could not help but stop and snap a few photos of the beauty that nature had provided to me. It didn't last long as the fog lifted and my view was obscured moments later but for that instant, the view was tremendous.

A Nice Place to Sit by the Coast Photo of the Day 281/366 I took this photo on our vacation a few weeks ago. It was taken in the yard of the spot where we like to stay when we are on Mt. Desert Island on our own. This view, and the serenity of the "quiet side" is why we love to stay at this place. The ocean is less than 100 yards from our cabin and we can hear the boats, the birds, and the waves and very few people. A quiet place, indeed.

Late Day Reflections Photo of the Day 280/366 I took this photo two weeks ago while on vacation. While it was rainy and dreary at home, we had really nice weather and only one rainy day. This image was captured while on a hike along a cove. We had missed the sun setting but the timing was such that the sky was showing us glorious colors and clouds, so I captured the painting that nature gave us.

Autumn Color in the Adirondacks Photo of the Day 279/366 This photo was taken last weekend on our return trip from Maine. We decided to take some back roads through Massachusetts and New York. We ended up going through the Adirondacks and stayed in the Catskills on our way. This was taken from a scenic overlook in the later afternoon light. The clouds were coming in but the autumn color was definitely coming on. I wish I could be there even now, a week later, as I believe it is even better.

Mountains and Ocean Photo of the Day 278/366 This photo was taken from Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park in Maine. I shot it last week while were on vaction. This is on of what I feel is a quintessential view of what nature is, in Acadia National Park. There are granite peaks, rocky shores, crashing ocean waves, pine trees, and, if you can find it despite the crowds, serenity. I've been back for about a week and I miss the place, already.

Grass, Ocean, and Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 277/366 I took this photo last week while on vacation in Maine. We were visiting the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island and meandering in some areas we have visited and stayed at, in the past. This scene, even on dreary days, is wonderful as one can get right to the edge. This day, the sky and weather provided a beautiful and serene scene just before sunset. No people, not buildings...just beauty.

Subtle Colors on the Horizon Photo of the Day 276/366 I took this photo last week on our Acadia Vacation. It was our last evening on the Mt. Desert Island and we were hiking a trail (new to us) just after sunset. When I took this, the sun had already set and were were rounding the corner for the return leg of the trail. I saw this view with the old tree and the quiet waters of the cove along with the subtle colors of the sky and wanted to capture the quiet and serenity.

  Morning View from the Cove Photo of the Day 275/366 This photo was taken late last week when we were on our vacation in Maine. We were on a morning trek to go antiquing and I took this from the car window. I really like the feel of this photo - there were none of the typical tourist things in it - just (for me) typical Maine - pine trees, ocean, rocks, clouds, and blue sky. These things are why I like it there.
