Storm Coming in after Sunset Photo of the Day 213/366 It was surprisingly stormy last evening. I heard rumbles of thunder and torrents of rain and thought that there could not be a sunset. I looked out our front windows and noted the orange line of clouds trying to show themselves. So, I HAD to go out and try to capture the sky - and I did. The storm clouds were receding from the west and left a little bit of sunset sky to show. I managed to capture a little bit of the beauty - and I didn't even get wet. I was blessed as it rained shortly after that.

Warm Summer Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 212/366 This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago.  I almost culled it from my sunset photos. However, when I looked at the clouds, they reminded me of steam or smoke rising from the setting sun. The soft pastel colors of the post-sunset sky also made me keep this  photo. It's just a warm summer sunset sky.

Lily Pads and the Afternoon Sun Photo of the Day 211/366 I took this photo this past weekend on a double-birthday jaunt to northeastern Pennsylvania. My birthday was Saturday and my oldest's was on Sunday. We went to Rickett's Glen State Park to see Smokey the Bear (I know, seems childish, but it was cool) and my son and I decided afterwards to walk down to the lake afterwards. The sky was clear and it was warm, but I ventured down a side trail and found this little scene of lily pads and the sun reflecting in the water and really liked the composition.

Photos of the Day for July 27th and 28th, 2024   End of the Day over the Silos Photo of the Day 209/366 The 27th was my Birthday and we left for the weekend with my oldest and his wife to relax and to do some sight-seeing.  That is why I'm last posting this and it's covering two days. This photo was from a few weeks ago as we were traveling and didn't really get a photo ready for posting on my birthday, so this will have to do. It is still pretty and I really liked it.

Streaky Sunset Clouds over the Field Photo of the Day 208/366 I took this photo over the last few weeks. I loved the view and loved the sky, but this is an instance where the human and eye did not agree, so I had to do some serious work to get this image to come out even close to what my eye saw. I like how it came out and it conveys the peaceful moment and beautiful scene.

Afternoon Sky over the Field Photo of the Day 207/366 I took this photo last weekend while out on a walk with my youngest child. I've taken a few photos of this field, but this one struck me with the beautiful afternoon sky, and the late day sunlight just touching the field. The lines of the fence and the distant hills, trees, and homes added to the "country" feel that attracted me to this scene so much. This is very close to a great representation of what I view when I see this type of scene - usually the camera makes it not quite there but this day, it was on point.

Last Slice of the Sun Photo of the Day 205/366 I took this photo over this past weekend. The sunset was quite outstanding. We've had so many good sunsets that it is difficult to choose which to post. I like this one because of the tiny sliver of the sun that still shone. I also like how it seems to give it's light to the surrounding cloud edges.

Sunlight Streaming out at Sunset Photo of the Day 205/366 This photo was taken a few nights ago. The sunsets have been glorious this year, and this one was no exception. The big view was very pretty, but this detail of the sunset was just as spectacular. The beams of golden light streaming out from the sun, through the clouds, were just amazing.  These sunsets have been a real gift this year.

Sunset at the Field Photo of the Day 204/366 I took this photo while out on a long walk with my youngest. The sun was setting as we were getting close to home and I stopped in multiple places to try to capture the sky. This scene appeared just as I was getting to one of the neighboring farms. I looked through the trees and noticed the sun and how the sunlight lit up the grass in the foreground. The colors in the sky, along with the trees and foreground just made this photo alive for me.

Afternoon Sun over the Orchard Photo of the Day 203/366 While on our way home, I noted that the sky was very gray, but there was a hole in the clouds that might prove to make a good photo. My wife suggested a spot we've gone to before which was very near. We went and I found that they had planted an orchard. The break in the afternoon clouds lit up the orchard and this show was the result.

Sweeping Clouds at Sunset Photo of the Day 202/366 I was working on some personal stuff on my computer and trying to keep track of time when I heard my wife say "SUNSET."  So I looked at my watch and found I had enough time to run out for a quick walk and try to get some shots. I got some and I loke this for the overall view of the sky - no edits needed on this.

Final Touch of the Sun Photo of the Day 201/366 I took this photo this past week. The view Treally caught my attention. It had been a very hot day and there were few clouds in the sky nearing the time of sunset. I went out for a walk anyway and saw the line of clouds coming out of the west. For a time, they blocked out the sun, but at the very end of the day, the sun showed itself from under the clouds, just before dipping below the horizon. The golden sky at that moment was just blazing and I was sweating but it was worth it.

Clouds at the End of the Day Photo of the Day 200/366 This photo was taken in the past couple of days. The cloud structures just fascinated me that evening and between the clouds, the brilliant colors, the bright, highly defined edges, it just made, for me, a good study of a "cloudscape". I excluded the foreground and any tree, hill, or field. These clouds really grabbed me.

Sunset Clouds Spread their Wings Photo of the Day 199/366 We took my youngest for dinner last evening and on the way home we drove through some showers but I was still hoping for a decent sunset. When we drove past the last clearing, I saw that it would be more than decent. So after parking, I ran back to that clearing and this sky greeted me. Despite a few raindrops, the sunset sky was wonderful!

Wispy Clouds at Sunset Photo of the Day 198/366 I took this photo a few days ago. I just love when the sun peeks out behind a cloud and seems to suddenly burst out with brightness. I took a wider view of this sunset and caught the faint blues along with the bright golds and yellows in the sky. The sunsets have truly been outstanding this year and I'm not complaining.

Sunset Sky over the River Photo of the Day 197/366 I shot this photo about 10 days ago. We were coming back from a family celebration and since the sky seemed pretty, my wife drove and I attempted to take photos. I managed one or two of the river, just because of the timing of traffic, people, and trees/signs. I did get a couple and this was one of them.

Last Kiss of the Sunset Photo of the Day 196/366 I took this photo last evening. I went to a neighboring lot and sat in the grass next to a field and waited for the sun to skink down into the coming clouds. I got many nice photos but for this day, I chose this one because of the clouds just starting to cover the sun and the brilliant oranges and golds of the sky. The last kiss.

Roadside Sunset Photo of the Day 195/366 I took this photo earlier in the week while out to ... just get out of the house. We just pulled off the road because I liked the "big sky" view of the sky. Due to the brightness in the sky, I initially didn't see the roadside creeping into the photo - however I came to like it being there, showing where I was that night.

Sunset Sky over the Barn Photo of the Day 194/366 I shot this photo earlier this week. We were out for a drive to get out of the house after a rough day. I didn't know where we were going - it was the wife's choice - but the company, the sunset and the local scenery made the trip worth it. I took more than a few of this farm, but really liked how this one turned out with the corn field and brilliant sky.

Storm Coming in at Sunset Photo of the Day 193/366 When I left our martial arts school last evening, the clouds were gathering all around and my thoughts were to get home before the storms arrived. Very close to home, I saw that faint orange glow at the horizon as the sun tried to come through. I stopped, despite the gathering storm, and captured this image as the rains were coming.

Sunset Winking through the Trees Photo of the Day 192/366 Yesterday, we both had an exhausting day and we spoke during dinner of going for a drive to see the sunset 9though it looked cloudy) and just get out of the house. My wife asked me where to drive and I said "surprise me.," laughing. We drove over some roads she knew, but that I had not been on before (or that I remembered). At the last stop, we had ruonded one corner and I asked her to pull over. I saw the sun just winking under the clouds among these trees. I really liked how this came out!

Sinking Sun Reflecting Light into the Clouds Photo of the Day 191/366 I took this photo a few days ago.  It's a wider view and the sun's light reflecting on the clouds immediately above and then even higher just makes the picture almost glimmer. The reds and blues, I expect in a sunset photo, but the brightness of the clouds was outstanding and really different in this particular sunset.

Sunset  under the Backyard Tree Photo of the Day 190/366 I shot this photo last evening. I wanted to catch the waning sunset sky but with something a little different. As I was walking by the neighbor's farm, I noticed the tree in their backyard. I did my best to position myself so that the tree framed the sunset and the clouds that seemed to fill in the empty space. I like this one.

Sunset over the Grassy Field Photo of the Day 189/366 I shot this photo last evening. I saw the orange glow from our front window and thought I could make it to the farm to take a few photos. I noted the grass at the edgy of the field and decided to get low so I could get the grass, the field, and the setting sun. Hopefully, as the summer progresses, maybe I can get one with the hay before it's cut.

Sunset Sky and a Line of Trees Photo of the Day 188/366 I took this photo from a moving car - as can be seen by the blurry foreground. I just manged to  catch the sky with the line of trees fading into the distant  field. As you may know, sunset skies transform so fast and this was not exception, within a minute this was gone. The scene was very fleeting.

Fenderow in the Afternoon Sun Photo of the Day 187/366 I took this photo this past week while on a sunset drive. We had pulled over near a farm driveway and while my wife sat in the car, I walked back a bit to see if I could catch some scenic shots. At that moment, the sun wasn't close to setting, but I I looked about and saw this bit of bucolic beauty. The fence and the field rows just wafting back into the hills just caught my eye and I had to try to shoot it.

Clouds Trying to Hide the Sun Photo of the Day 186/366 On the way home from class last evening, the sky did not look promising for a sunset. I texted my wife to let her know I was on my way and she responded that if I stopped to get the sunset, it was OK with her. Further on, on my short ride home, I saw what she meant. The action at the horizon was outstanding. The clouds had gathered at the horizon and were trying to blot out the setting sun - but that wasn't happening. The sun was doing its best to burn through and show its light to all. This was one of the photos I got.

Sunset over the Farm Field Photo of the Day 185/366 I looked at the clouds last evening and decided I needed to take a drive and my wife offered to go with me and drive. We drove on some roads on which I knew would have western views and we stopped at a number of places. This was one of the best shots I got for the evening. The clouds just seemed to light up over the field.

Sunburst at Sunset Photo of the Day 184/366 I took this photo a few days ago. I didn't think there would be a sunset worth taking. I went out for a walk more for exercise than photography. However, when I noticed the sun dipping down low and the lone tree, I had to try to get a shot. I like the clouds, the orange of the sky, the sunburst - in the end, I liked it all.

Hayfield in the Afternoon Sun Photo of the Day 183/366 I looked out the window and all of day's storm clouds had been swept away. The humidity had come down but so did the chance for a dramatic sunset. Without clouds - a sunset is relatively bland -so I decided to walk a little earlier and see what our local area had to offer for scenery. I noticed that one of our more distant neighbors had not harvested the hay rolls, and the field was full, so I decided to take some photos there. The sun was lighting up the field and the distant hills - a very nice, bucolic shot of the field.
