A Quiet Place by the Harbor Photo of the Day 274/366 I took this photo last week while we were on vacation on Mt. Desert Island in Maine. We had trekked over to the quite side of the island one night and wanted to show my sister one of the old haunts that I had visited with our Dad and later with my family. The diner went down when Covid hit and never really recovered. However, the scenery was just as beautiful, but somewhat quieter now.  Maybe I'm just getting older.

Sunset Sky over the Cove Photo of the Day 273/366 I took this photo two evenings ago while on our final walk on Acadia. We had decided to go on a new trail that I had never been on before. It was just after sunset and we were trekking along the edge of the cove and reveling in the skies and trail that we saw. The views were awesome and you'll likely see a few more before I stop basking in our vacation.

Late Afternoon Path to the Ocean Photo of the Day 272/366     I took this photo yesterday afternoon. It was the last evening we had on Mt. Desert Island for the year. We visited one of our favorite cottages (Sunset Cottages of Acadia) and they were so gracious to allow us to show off the property to my sister and her husband.  The property did not disappoint and we got some great shots and this is one is a favorite. The path I've walked MANY times to a sunset. Now we have to head home with some great memories.

Beautiful View from Otter Cliffs Photo of the Day 271/366 I took this photo a couple of days ago while showing off Acadia National Park to my sister and brother-in-law. This is a place I've hiked to many, many times and still can't get enough of the view.  What made this day even better was the blue sky and the meandering clouds. The air was just cools and the sunshine made it warm enough to be comfortable. It was a glorious view.

Sunset over Bass Harbor Photo of the Day 270/366 I took this photo this week on our jaunt to the "quite side" of Mt. Desert Island. We got to the lighthouse a little bit before sunset and, as luck would have it, there was another wedding shoot happening there.  We had the first wedding at Pemaquid Lighthouse and the second one here. There were plenty of people and many of my photos contained humans - but I got this one without - which is the way I want this shot - just the ocean, the sky, the lighthouse, and Acadia!

Parson's Bridge in Autumn Splendor Photo of the Day 269/366     I took this photo yesterday on our vacation to Acadia National Park. This bridge is in Sommesville, which is home to the closest thing the US has for a fjord. I always try to get photos of this bridge when I visit Acadia and yesterday did not fail. The flowers and the hints of the beginning of autumn colors were glorious in the sunshine. This year, again, did not disappoint.

Looking Over the Edge Photo of the Day 268/366 This photo, taken yesterday, was at a "secret" place on Acadia National Park on the Schoodic Peninsula, called Raven's Nest. The National Park Service does not and will not tell you where it is due to the inherent danger of falling from the cliffs. This photo shows a gent who passed us by on the trail so he could go out to the very edge. I admired his surefooted way but going out that far was not for me. It was a beautiful view of nature's handiwork.

Vacation Trip Set #! Photos of the Day for #265, 266, and 265   We are along the Maine Coast on vacation and I'll try to post as I can but here are my first three "Photos of the Day" while I'm on the road.  The first and last are from Mt. Desert Island, specifically Bar Harbor. I named the first one "Misty Morning on the Cove", the second was taken 2 days ago and named "Wild Rose at Pemaquid Light" and the third was named "Sunset Sky over Frenchman's Bay". The last one took the most effort. I tried to reach the harbor for sunset and missed it (as did a couple of other photos I met there). However, when I turned around - WOW - what a sky. This is my happy place and I'm so glad to be here.

Sunrise Breaking over the Field and Pond Photo of the Day 264/366 I took this photo yesterday morning on the way to work. It was my last attempt before taking off for a needed vacation. Just the right moment on the way to work - I just pulled off the road and jumped out and took this with my iPhone. I'd love to have gotten closer to the pond, but it IS private property and I don't want to appear to be a creeper - the water is down right now.  Sometimes there is more water and even geese or ducks - but at this time, I just had to take what I could get.

Sunset Sky over the Corn Photo of the Day 263/366 This photo was taken while at our old house. I was out for a late walk when I noticed the wispy red clouds lighting up the sky. The farm had been getting "old" to me at that point so I looked for another view. I found one out on my walk with the corn stalks. They provided an interesting shape contrast to the soft wispy clouds (at least I think so).

Through the Field at Sunrise Photo of the Day 262/366   This photo was taken at a nearby State Game Lands early one morning. The sun had just cleared the trees and the light glinted off of the field grass and other nearby plants. The yellow sky could not be brought "under control" without losing the detail in the field, so I let the exposure of the sunlight be over-bright. I liked this ever since I took the shot and still like it.

Sun Sinking Through the Clouds Photo of the Day 261/366   This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago on one of our sunset walks. I had taken some wider shots of the sunset sky but right at the end, the sky near the horizon darkened. I looked and I saw the sun almost fighting to let out one last burst of light and this was the result. The red sun burning through the clouds right at the horizon line. The clouds around it lighting up - but then, in a blink, it was gone.

Horse Out at Sunset Photo of the Day 260/366 This photo was taken near my son's home. We were there yesterday to get some more things of ours from their home and to have dinner and play games. This photo was taken near their home but taken some few years ago. As with all things - there are changes - there is a barn now, where this photo was taken and there is no clear view of the sky. I do love this photo, though. The reflections, the light, it all works.

Clouds Receding After the Sunset Photo of the Day 259/366     I went out last evening and really thought I had missed a beautiful sky. I hurried but I did miss the sun setting, which would have been great, but the soft colors in the sky after the sunset had its own reward. The dark, spotty clouds, which seemed to be escaping to the west, added to the wonder of the scene. I'm glad I hurried and I'm glad I got this shot.

Sunrise on Campus Photo of the Day 258/366 This photo was taken on my walk in from my car to my office. I'm always thinking of the work to be done, but the sun hit me and made me look up.  Just then, I noticed that if I moved just a little, I could get the sun hiding behind a tree up campus from where I was. I moved a little and the day's coming work fell away and I noticed the clouds, the sky, the sun and this was the resulting image.

Soft Colors Before the Sunrise Photo of the Day 257/366 I took this photo on the way to work yesterday morning. I knew I was running a little early but when I saw the soft colors and the light mist on the field, I had to pull over and grab a few photos. I really liked the layers of color - from the green of the field to the blues of the hills, then the pinks, oranges, and golds of the clouds and finally back to the blue above the sky - this seemed to be a layer cake of colors. A beautiful morning.

Red Sunset Shining on the Grass Photo of the Day 256/366   I took this photo this past week and could not resist zooming in as far as I could as the sun was sinking. It was only when I took a hard look at the resulting image (on my computer and not my phone), that I saw the sunlight shining on the grass in the foreground. When I first looked, I liked the streaky, unusual clouds, but the grass just makes it even better.

Sunset Through the Trees Photo of the Day 255/366 This photo was taken last evening - I was hesitant to go as I was unsure what the sunset would look like and I was sore and not in the best of moods, after a hard day at work. I went anyway and did catch the setting sun, but I wanted a newer perspective. So I meandered a bit and found the the sun setting behind a tree at the edge of the property while I was under a tree nearby. I thought it made a nice composition.

Sun About to Rise Photo of the Day 254/366     As we get moving towards autumn, the sunrises are late enough that I can capture them on the way to work - but the sunsets are too early to get before I leave class.  That means more sunrise and less sunset. Time keeps marching on - perhaps I'll photograph some other topics for awhile - I'm undecided.

Afternoon Sky over the Yard Photo of the Day 253/366  This photo was taken a few weeks ago while out looking at a farm near us. The sun was setting and I turned and the setting sun had turned the eastern sky's clouds bright with reds and oranges. These trees looked a little bare.  We had some storms, and as it's getting close to autumn here and some of the leaves are blown off more easily and these trees are sitting in the open. I liked this scene.

Pretty Sunset after a Long Day Photo of the Day 252/366 On the way home after a long day at a tournament yesterday, I spied the sunset just closing. Due to our area being in a valley, I thought I missed the sunset for photo purposes. As I got nearer to home, I saw the sun still shining on the trees and houses, so I took advantage and parked the car. I turns out that fate was on my side and I was able to nab this photo before the sun disappeared.

Bands of Clouds just after Sunset Photo of the Day 251/366     This photo was taken last weekend and the scenes were fantastic. I had time to grab a number of sunset photos over the rolling hills. This particular one caught my eye due to the brilliant colors near the horizon and the  contrasting white in the clouds further away. I just loved the play of colors at that moment.

Late Afternoon Sun on the Field Photo of the Day 250/366   I captured this image a few weeks ago. I arrived at one of my sunset spots a little early and decided to explore a little. I came to the edge of a field and looked across at the clouds and noticed how the sunlight was just skating across the grasses in the field. I thought then, as I do now, that this was a very bucolic and timeless scene.  It could be almost anywhere, but it isn't - it's almost in my backyard.

Sunset and Blossom Photo of the Day 249/366   I took this photo some time ago. I really worked hard to get the setting sun behind the blossom on the tree. It's a detail shot but sometimes, I get bored  shooting just sunsets and need to do something a little different. I really liked the color on this one but I had to fight power lines and distractions so I had to get just the right position and do a little editing, but I think it came out well.

Streaky Sunset across the Field Photo of the Day 248/366 This photo was taken last week and I love how the colors in the clouds and the light as it came across the grass in the field. The blue hills in the distance and the trees along the horizon add a nice break between the sky and the field. The single tree in the neighbor''s back year adds a little spark of interest, too.

Pretty Summer Sunrise Photo of the Day 247/366 We're now approaching the time for more sunrises than sunsets - at least until Daylight Savings Time starts. The sunsets are too early for my schedule for me to get shots of them. So I get what I can and this was taken yesterday morning on my way to work. I really liked the blue sky coming through above the gray clouds with the gold on the horizon - it made for a nice contrast.

Sunset at the Wedding Venue Photo of the Day 246/366   This was taken last evening. I was shooting a wedding and the bride and groom wanted their photo taken as sunset - to the point that we rearranged the events at the reception to allow this to happen. After the shooting (of the sunset photo) was done, I nabbed a couple of shots on my iPhone. This was likely my last wedding as "the" photographer. I enjoyed it but the body doesn't want to keep up with mental demands.

Barn View across the Clearing Photo of the Day 245/366 I took this photo in early August on a very hot, clear day. I had decided to get out of the house on a clear day despite the heat and drove for awhile and then parked the car and walked a bit. I found an old barn nestled among the green trees across a cleared field. I positioned myself under a tree for shade and this nice framing appeared. I really like the green of summer with the blue sky with puffy clouds. It looks so peaceful, but it was SO hot.
