    Photo of the Day 31/366 Sunset Sky over a Misty Field I took this photo last weekend on a quick run to the store. I noticed the sunset sky, even though I had missed the sunset. The sky was pretty and I had taken a couple of photos a short distance away and was trying to find a place to turn around.  This view was there, with the misty field and that made me stop and shoot.    

  Photo of the Day 30/366 Sun Setting Out of the Car Window On the way home last evening, the sky didn't look all that great. I saw the sun setting but the colors weren't there and I started home. I called my wife as I drove and as I topped a hill,  I told here to hang on as I had to get something - I stopped in the middle of the road and grabbed 2 shots and this was one of them. I was wrong about the colors...  

  Photo of the Day 29/366 Sunset Surprise from Inside We were at an auto show this weekend and we were going from room to room when I noticed that the sun was setting through the hallway windows. I stopped our little group so I could take a couple of photos. The glass was tinted so I had to do some editing but after removing the color cast and a little extra, this is what I saw.  

    Photo of the Day 28/366 Sweeping Clouds Reflecting the Sunset I shot this photo 2 nights ago on the way home from shopping. The sun had set and I was working to find some pretty shots. As I've been told in the past, when you see a sunset or sunrise, turn around.  This is what I saw when I  turned around. The colors in the sweeping clouds, just after the sunset was amazing.  

  Photo of the Day 27/366 Trees Reaching into the Sunset Sky I shot this photo last evening on the way home from a quick (frustrating) trip to the store. I saw the sky at the store and there was really no place to get a shot. I actually missed the setting sun standing in line at the store. However, on the way home, I was able to find a couple of stops where I could catch the sky. Here's one of the shots.  

    Photo of the Day 26/366 Vivid Golds and Blues at Sunset This shot was taken a few weeks ago. I took a series of shots of this sunset and, for the most part, the skys were just too - blah. This one, when zoomed in and at the moment the sun came out from the clouds, the sky just lit up and the colors seemed to go crazy good. I only got one shot like this before the sun was hidden again.  

      Photo of the Day 25/366 Sunset from the Edge of the Field This photo is from my archives. I took it perhaps 2-3 years ago. I love the winter view. For some, it's too busy with the fence post, the grasses, the hills, clouds, setting sun...etc - but to me, it encompasses the feel of what winter should be. It is a beautiful scene. The scene is set across from a local township building so all I had to do was park in their lot, cross the road and - there was the scene. My timing was very fortunate and I got lucky.      

  Photo of the Day 24/366  Colorful Winter Sunset I took this photo Monday evening at our karate school. We were teaching when one of the students stated how pretty the sky was. I looked outside to see the pinks and oranges reflecting off of the walls of the building. I rushed outside and was able to grab a few snaps before getting back on the floor for more work. 'Twas worth it.  

     Photo of the Day 23/366 Grasses and Trees in the Snow I took this photo after the first real snow of the season. I went for a long walk (after shoveling the driveway) and was wondering down our local roads when I came across this scene. It just seems almost like a painting, somehow. I'm not sure if it's the muted colors or what but I really liked the scene.  

  Photo of the Day 22/366 Sunrise Sky over the Snowy Field This photo is from my archives and taken a few years ago while on my way to work. I remember pulling off the main road onto a country road to get this shot. I was able to stop the car in the road, get out, take some shots and not a car passed me by. It was a cold and beautiful morning with a wonderful sky.  

      Photo of the Day 21/366 Sunrise through the Winter Trees I shot this photo yesterday morning. The temperature was about 15 degrees (f) and I still ventured  out on our back deck when I viewed the morning's puffy clouds and the sun shining through the trees. It was a cold shot (I ran out without a coat) but so worth it. The sky was so blue and the clouds were catching the sunrise colors. Amazing (to me).  

    Photo of the Day 20/366 Snowy Road in the Afternoon Sunlight I shot this photo from a friends house.  I had just dropped them off and was about to get in the car when I noticed the late day sunlight.  The light skating off of the snow and the color was just great so I had to grab a few photos despite the cold. It was worth it.  

        Photo of the Day 19/366 Fiery Sunset Sky on the Snowy Road I shot this photo last week after dropping off my co-worker and pulling into our driveway. The road shown is down the road from my home. The sky was the same as the one posted yesterday, which looked very dark, but the clouds moved and lit up like fire. I was not in a place to get the full fiery effect, but this is the best I could do. I still think it looked pretty cool (or hot).      

    Photo of the Day 18/366 Ominous Sky at Sunset I took this photo a couple of days ago after dropping off my coworker. I stopped at a few locations on the way home because the sky was changing so fast. The colors went from orange to gold to a dark foreboding gray and then to red and pink. I took this from my car window in a church parking lot looking uphill at the tree. My original subject was tree, but the sky is what added the real drama to the photo.

Photo of the Day 17/366 Snowy Winter Sunset We got our first "cold" snow of the season yesterday - the snow fell to about 4 inches and the temperatures aren't getting above freezing very soon. I dropped off a co-worker at her home and turned and saw this sunset across the fields and could not resist.  The sunlight just kissing the fields made this a nice shot.  

  Photo of the Day 16/366 Red Tinged Sunset Sky over the Field I took this photo over this past weekend. We had some brilliant sunset skies over the weekend and I tried to grab them where I could. The shots were done over a parking lot, over a field, from a car window, and even from a rooftop.  I'm not s sure why, but sunsets and sunrises are the types ove landscape that I love to shoot.  

      Photo of the Day 15/366 Clouds Trying to Hide the Setting Sun The sun was setting and I had to run an errand with one of my kids. While my offspring went into the store, I endeavored to find a way t get a shot in the parking lot. This is what I arrived at. It took some editing, but this image is representative of the sky I saw. The variance of colors and the hidden sun make this a good shot to me.

      Photo of the Day 14/366 Cold Sunset through the Bare Trees I took this photo last evening when I had to make a stop at a local school. The sun was just setting and I was hoping for SOME place to take a photo of the colorful sky. I climbed some stairs at the side of the building to come up to a low roof line. I managed to get above that roof line and took this shot just before the sun dipped below the horizon. I feel that the colors would have been enough, but the sunburst just made the photo work better.      

  Photo of the Day 13/366 Predawn Sky over the Pines This photo was shot yesterday morning on the way to work. The tree farm, where I shot this provides the pine trees and the clear eastern view. There used to be tall trees on the horizon just beyond the pines but there were removed over the summer. I miss them as they provided some extra interest but this is pretty, too.  

    Photo of the Day 12/366 Spotty Sunset Clouds I took this photo from the car earlier in the week. I literally stopped the car and shot this from my driver's seat through the windshield. I was running late for my class, but the sunset was so pretty, I HAD to try at least one shot. I pulled to the side of the road and just took the shot - and this was the result.     

   Photo of the Day 11/366 Afternoon Sky at the Quaker Meeting House I took this photo a few years ago when we had a snowfall that lasted for more than a day or two. It was out near our old home and I managed this while I was out on a long drive. The afternoon sun can be seen in the trees in the back and the clouds were lit by the setting sun. It was a wonderful winter day.  

    Photo of the Day 10/366 Wispy Clouds and Setting Sun I shot this photo last week before our snowfall (which is mostly gone now). The clouds seemed to be drawn to the right as if being pulled by some cosmic force. I loved the golds, the yellows, the blue sky, and of course, the setting sun. This is a wide shot and it shows the big sky feel, even better.    

      Photo of the Day 9/366 Old Tree and Grass in the Snow I took this photo over this past weekend. We received our first "real" snowfall in about 2 years.  I was out for a walk, trying to find something photogenic. The sky was still that solid gray with no hints of blue breaking through or of any sunset colors - just steel gray skies. There were a few darker patches but nothing that would fit my normal liking - so I found this scene by the road. It does have a "Wyeth" feel to it, which I like, so I'm pretty happy with it.

    Photo of the Day 8/366 Trees trying to Hide the Sunset This photo was taken last week before our first (significant) snowfall in 2 years. I found 3 different locations for photos on the way home and this was the last location.  The sun was just setting and where I pulled off, the sun was behind some trees. The sky was golden and the trees were hiding the sun and the light mist of sunset.  

    Photo of the Day 7/366 Railroad Tracks into the Setting Sun I took this photo on this past Friday. I saw the sun setting as I was leaving my office and decided to try to capture it as best as I could. This was one of those shots. I stopped at three different locations and was VERY blessed to be able to grab shots at all three sites that were keepers. The sky changed fast, but was beautiful in all locations. I used my phone to get real low between the tracks and then used the wide angle camera to exaggerate the leading lines. I think it came out well.      

      Photo of the Day 6/366 Moon Above the Predawn Sky This time of year, the sky on the way to work is normally too dark to see anything but stars.  However, I was lucky yesterday morning and caught the moon hanging above the sunrise sky AND there were clouds which made the scene dramatic - just the way I like it. The colors  - the "big sky" feel - it all fell together.  

    Photo of the Day 5/366 Cold Raw Day for a Walk on the Mountain Road  I shot this photo this past weekend. We were up to help clean at my in-laws and stopped at the top of the mountain.  At the pull off, there is a road that lead to the cell-towers at the top of the mountain. On one side of the mountain (away from the road) the sun and clouds were beginning to part. On the other the clouds were still prevalent (where the road was). In either case, the wind was blowing and it was very cold at the top. I've walked the road before - all the way to the top - but not this day... too cold.    

      Photo of the Day 4/366 Wild Sky Just After Sunset As I left my office last evening, I noted the sun setting in the west.  I wasn't feeling like it was a great day, but I thought I'd try to get to a good photo spot.  On the way, I found a spot to see the sunset, but the sun had just dipped below the horizon. The sweeping clouds - almost brush strokes made the sky great and worthwhile.  

  Photo of the Day 3/366 Sunset Sky over the Hill This photo was taken last weekend while out driving. It was taken from a moving car, on my iPhone. I did have to do some color balance work due to the tinted windows in my car - just to get it to what I saw. It was a beautiful sky across the fields (very dark) and hills. The sun kept going in and out, but this sky didn't need it.  

    Photo of the Day 2/365 Sunrise Red Sky over the Pond I shot this a few weeks ago on the way to work. I noted the sky colors and initially, the sky was not this ready but as I neared the farm where this pond is, the clouds moved and the sky reddened. I had to stop and try to grab a few shots. I got two before the red changed into more "mundane" colors. I liked this one.    

      Photo of the Day 1/365 Sunrise through the Distant Trees This photo, for me, shows the hope of the new year with the sun rising through the trees. To me, the trees represent the thoughts, worries, and fears of life and the clouds represent the mystery of what is to come. We can choose to see the clouds and worry if they thicken and blot out the sun - or we can just enjoy the beauty of the colors and let those worries handle themselves. Although we are never promised happiness, my goal (I don't do "resolutions") is to try to be more content and rooted in what I CAN do. Happy New Years, everyone!
