Quiet Lake Just Before Dawn Photo of the Day 59/365 This photo was taken near my old home on a very calm late winter morning. The sky was "picture perfect" and the reflections in the calm water made the photo almost magical. The windless morning meant that it was cold and frosty but the overall photo made it worth having frozen fingers and toes to get it.

Dawn on a Little Creek Photo of the Day 58/365 There are only a few days when the sun rises such that it falls on this little creek near my workplace. Yesterday was one of those days. I spotted it as I crossed the one-lane bridge and pulled into a little spot and grabbed a number of shots. This one just hit so that the sun rays lit up the lens and I went with this one to share.

Just Before Sunrise at the Pond Photo of the Day 57/365 Yesterday morning gave us a glorious sunrise sky. I stopped two separate places on my way to work - and I'm glad I left my house early. The golds, blues, and grays made for a nice warm (at least to look at it) morning, knowing spring is just around the corner. There isn't a much better way to start the day.

Sunrise Sky on the Road Photo of the Day 56/365 I took this photo over the weekend when I was driving to get a friends home. We were going to a karate seminar and I was running late. I grabbed the photo as I was driving (I know - safety first, right?). I did look to ensure no one was coming and no one was behind me. I HAD to get the shot but I didn't have time to pull over, so I got what I could.

Barn in the Afternoon Photo of the Day 55/365 This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago while out on a drive with my wife. We were driving through some local farm country in the afternoon. The sun was out but the clouds were coming. The fields and trees are bare. A very country scene but I can't wait for the spring colors and warmth. I love old barns and the memories they bring back of my youth - this one is no exception.

Sunset Sky and Blue Hills Photo of the Day 54/365 I took this photo last evening on the way home from a Karate Gasshaku. I was tired but on the drive home, I saw this awesome sunset sky forming and decided to try to find somewhere to capture it. I was struggline because there wasn't anywhere - then with less than 2 miles to go, I remembered a side road with a wide vista view of the west. I was rewarded with this view of the fields, the bright blue hills and a beautiful sunset sky.  Worth the wait!

Colorful Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 53/365 This image was taken a few weeks ago and was a closer view than one I posted. I always like to get multiple shots of different view to get the most I can from a scene. The trees in this photo seem to be reaching up and touching the clouds and the structure and colors in the clouds on this photo just make the scene attractive to me.

Early Morning Mist in the Valley Photo of the Day 51/365 This photo was taken about 9 years ago on a easier going morning than I've had lately. After looking closely at this photo in my archives, I liked it better and better. I did manage to capture laters of mist in the far valley, but if you look closely, it is also evident in the foreground right. The dawn colors drew me in, but the mist and the clouds, and the coming hope of a new dawn drew me in.

Farm Just Over the Rise Photo of the Day 51/365 This photo was taken a few weeks ago on a shopping trip. We were on our way home when I noticed that we were coming up on a farm.  The sun was getting lower but not enough at that moment. I really liked that way the farm was lit and the pretty sky and the lack of traffic (at that instant) - so I grabbed this shot and, for some reason, I really like it.

Windswept Winter Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 50/365 This photo was taken a bit ago after a snow - I was out and about and happened to see this scene unfold over the valley. You can see the farm in the distance and the orange and golden clouds above. The light even reflected in the snow. It was a cold sunset, but these scenes make it worth braving the cold (even for a brief moment) to get this kind of photo.

Sunset through the Trees after the Melt Photo of the Day 49/365 I took this photo a couple of days ago. The snow, sleet, and ice had come and made driving hazardous, then the rain came and melted it all as the temperatures rose.  Then the winds came - and that's when I decided to go for a walk. The "warm" temperature of 35 degrees felt bitter cold in the wind but I managed a few photos and this was one fothe better ones.

Sunset Fire through the Trees Photo of the Day 48/365 This photo was taken earlier this winter near the campus where I work. The sunset was an awesome sight above the railroad tracks. I did take a few shots with the tracks but I wanted to get a photo that emphasized the fire in the sky. This photo needed some editing as the sky washed out due to the dark trees so it took a bit of work. But now this photo truly represents what I saw that evening.

Scenic View During a Lull in the Storm Photo of the Day 47/365 This photo could have been taken yesterday, but alas, it wasn't. When the weather was snowting, I did not venture out into the weather, but stayed in.  This photo was taken in a few years ago on my way home from work. They had sent us home early and I was able to stop, in the middle of the road to get this shot before heading home.

Sunrise Breaking Through the Trees Photo of the Day 45/365 This photo was taken earler and now truly represents what I saw that morning. It can be very frustrating when the camera just doens't give the vibrant colors and subtle differences in color that our eyes see. So, I'm not a purist and settle for "out of the camera", especially with landscapes. I want others to see what I saw - and this image now shows what I saw during that glorious sunrise.

Predawn Sky through the Pines Photo of the Day 45/365 This photo was taken from my archives and was shot a couple of years ago. I've been going back to my older shots and found some that "needed some help" using some editing tools I didn't have before. The camera only rarely captures what the eye sess, so now, with a little editing, this image now shows what I saw that morning - a glorious sky behind the dark pines.

Cold Winter Morning at the Creek Photo of the Day 44/365 I took the photo earlier on my way to work. This creek, the Yellow Breeches, provides so many things to folks (adults and students) on our campus.  In the spring and fall, students can be found in hammocks hung on the trees, or sitting and studying as adults fish or just look about at nature, In the warmer weather there are "tubers" and kayakers and in the colder months, the geese and folks like me (photographers) can be found trying to capture something special.

Snow at Dawn Photo of the Day 43/365 This photo, taken from my archives, could be even today, but it's not. It was taken more than 10 years ago. I was on my way to work, took a side road and found this scene. The snow had fallen the night before and the sun was just about to break, giving the gray sky with orange and gold streams of light and color. It was woth being a few minutes behind to get this photo.

Snowy Morning View on Campus Photo of the Day 42/365 We've had many all-day meetings at work lately and I took the time to take some photos before the meetings started. Not many of the images came out to my taste, but I save this one. The sidewalks spreading out below and the sunlight and sky made the image come together for me. Add a few students walking to morning class, an the image was done.

Shed Alone in the Field Photo of the Day 41/365   My wife and I were out shopping yesterday and on the way home, we decided to take "the scenic route" on the way home. We live in her home area so she knows many back roads. We passed by a number of farms but this one, lonely, shed caught my ey. It was out in the field well beyond the other farm buildings and seemed alone. With the short stubble field and the cloudy blue sky, I thought this came together for a pretty shot after a cold icy weekend.

Winter Sunset in Cape May Photo of the day 40/365 I reached WAY back in my archives for this one. It was taken 14 years ago on one of our trips to Cape May. We used to go every year, sometimes twice per year, until a few unfortnate events left memories that I don't wish to renew. Some of them are easily forgotten, but some hang on. Someday, we'll go back, but Maine and Cape Cod have taken the place, in my heart of Cape May. But...I still enjoy looking back at the photos I took.

Frosty Valley Just Before Dawn Photo of the Day 39/365 I took this photo yesterday morning on the way to work. Most of the snow has melted but it was cold so the frost lay between the trees and the remaining snow. Yesterday, the sky glowed with color and the air was clear so the hills shown in nice shades of blue. I just felt the need to pull over and grab a handful of pictures before heading to work. The colors didn't last for long so I'm glad I did. Quote of the Day: "The hardest step we all must take is to blindly trust in who we are." - Atticus Leaves in the Snow   Images Exposed Daily Photo Challenge Saturday Nature: I've always liked this photo. The minimalist feel to it, the angle of leaves, the brown of the leaves and the white of the snow.  With no marks or tracks in the snow, it almost make it look fake - but it was what it was. It was taken at my last residence on a snowy Saturday when no one was moving and roads were covered as well as all the yards...

Late Afternoon Sky over the Cove Photo of the Day 38/365 I REALLY miss this place. In the depths of winter, I miss the yearly trips to Mt. Desert Island in Maine. We stay at a place on the "quiet side" of the Island and it is beautiful. We just made reservations for this year and I am anxious for our return. This photo was taken from the place where we stay and it is, literally, in the back yard of the cottage. June can not come sson enough.

Frosty Morning Sunrise Photo of the Day 37/365 This photo was taken before the major snowfalls this year. The morning was cold andthe sunset was awesome. The person who owns this property puts out rods at the edge of the road when snow starts and I can no longer pull off to take photos. I believe it's to help direct the snowplows but it's an annoyance to me. There will be few from this vantage point until spring. But this one was a good one.

Sunset on the Trees and Field Photo of the Day 36/365 There was a beautiful sunset a week or so ago. Because the sun did not shine very well through the trees, I didn't post it.  The more I looked and worked with this photo, the more I liked it and today, I decided to post it. I'm not sure how much more snow we'll get this season, but this photo shows the beauty of a simple sunset, the stark trees, and the snowy field.

Sunset Clouds by the Road Photo of the Day 35/365 The snow is melted off for the most part and this sky wsa taken on my way home from work the other day. There is more winter weather forecasted so we'll see how many more snowy photos I can take before the season ends. However, this photo gives promise to the coming spring with warmer tempeartures, greener fields, and more colorful scenes.

Cold Afternoon at the Lake Photo of the Day 34/365 This photo was taken a few years ago while out on a winter hike at a nearby State Park. The air seemed OK when I got there but when I got down to the lakeside trail it was windy and bitterly cold. As the sun was sinking, the clouds were coming by and warmth disappeared. The ice didn't help, but it did make for a nice afternoon winter shot.

Beautiful Winter Sunset Photo of the Day 33/365 I get what I can capture with my busy life. I wish I had the luxury of planning and preparing for a sunset photo "shoot" where I could hike to nowhere, take my tripod and have almost limitless time to take photos. I only had the once, while one a photo-tour in Maine - and I LOVED it.  However, that's not my real life - and I have things that need done and other priorities. So, I pull off the road on a moment's notice, and try to shoot what I can from parking lots or roadsides as I drive.  This is one of those.

Missing Warm Days at the Lake Photo of the Day 32/365 It was a very dreary and busy day yesterday so I decided to reach into my archives and bring back a memory from the warm spring days of the past. This photo is from our locak state park. The memory of the warm afternoon, the beautful skies, the calm water - it all comes together to make me yearn for the end of winter. However, as I age, I try not to wish my life away, it's ebbinh away too quickly, as it it.
