Into the Woods in the Afternoon Photo of the Day 243/365 I took this photo as the day was winding down yesterday. The family is trying to get my in-laws home ready for sale. It is tough, sometimes, to see a lifetime of things, whether for love of collecting or just stuff they liked, being prepared to be sold, trashed, or in some cases, being gifted to the children or to charity. It's just tough watching lives being distributed. BUT, this was the scene directly in front of their house and I know they loved that.

Sunset Blazing over the Field Photo of the Day 242/365 I took this photo a few weeks ago while at my son's home. As we were preparing to leave, I noted the setting sun and tried to get into position for a shot. As this used to me my home, I knew where some vantage points were so I was able to get a few shots, but the sunrays shining up from the sun was a bonus. The sun was trying to hide just to the left of the trees, but the sunrays gave it away.

 Streamers in the Dawn Sky Photo of the Day 241/365 I found this scene on the way to work yesterday morning. As the days move on in the year, the sun rises earlier and earlier. The sun was actually higher in the sky than I'd like for a sunrise photo, but I zoomed out to the widest setting I had so that the sun would appear lower in the sky, and the streaming clouds would reach up into the blue. I really like how this image came out!

Sunset Sky behind the Trees Photo of the Day 240/365 I took this photo a few days ago at the very beginning of a sunset walk. I had just come upon the scene I was hoping to see when thses clouds caught my eye. The sunset was actually to the right, but these trees and the fiery edges of the clouds really stood out to me.  I zoomed in and tried to isolate the trees with the "right" clouds and I think it came out well.

Sun Sinking into Evening Photo of the Day 239/365 I took this photo last week and decided that there was another better shot that evening, for the next day. However, in looking at this photo, I really liked being able to see the sun as it was sinking (quickly) through the clouds. I liked the colors, the clouds and the way the trees looked against the sky that night. This one was worth a second look.

Misty Morning Sky and the Tall Grass Photo of the Day 238/365 I took this photo yesterday morning ont he way to the office. We have such beautiful scenery in south-central Pennsylvania - it amazes me daiily. Add to that the morning and evening skies we've had, and the photo opportunities are blessings. Yesterday, the mist covered the field but hung low so I could still capture the morning clouds and sun - glorious.

Early Morning Sky on Campus Photo of the Day 237/365 I took this photo a few weeks ago on my way from my car to my building on the campus where I work. Some mornings, it works, and others, not.  This morning, I thought we would have rain, but the sun broke through and provide for a nice morning sky. It did rain later, but I'll take pretty skies anytime.

 Sun Saying Good Evening Photo of the Day 236/365 This photo was taken last evening. Whenever there is a chance of a sunset sky, I usually will make an effort to try to get a photo or two (or 10 or more).  Last evening was not exception, and despite 2.5 mile hike earlier, I still ventured out. I caught the sky but there was a large dark cloud so my hopes were on the edge. Then when I was about to give up, the sun burst through just at the bottom edge of the cloud and putr on a show.

Morning Sunshine and Mist at the Pond Photo of the Day 235/365 I took this photo on the way to work yesterday morning. I just can't resist when the sun is up and the mist is coming up. The sun was high enought that in many of my favorite spots, it was too bright to see the mist. However, at this farm pond, the trees blocked enough of the sunlight to allow me to capture the mist and the sunlight. As autumn approaches, I'm enjoying cooler mornings and the photo opportunities that come.

Summer Sunset over the Farm Photo of the Day 234/365 Thjis photo was taken a month or two ago and I had a hard time making this photo come out the way my eyes saw it. The bright sky just made the trees and barn dark shapes. In fact, in the original, you couild not see the barn at all.  However, when I took the photo, I saw it and want to capture it and see it - but the camera's sensor failed me - so I did work editing it to get it as close as I could to what I saw - I think it was worth it.

Sunset Just over the Pines Photo of the Day 233/365 I grabbed this photo about a month ago.  I'm not surehy I've held onto it this long. I was taken from my front yard across to my neighbors trees. I was trying to see if I could catch the sunset without going for a walk, because it was hot and I was tired. This was the best shot I could make and I think it came out OK.

Morning Gap in the Clouds Photo of the Day 232/365 I took this photo yesterday morning. When leaving the house, I had little hope of a photo of the morning sky until I topped a hill.  I saw the "hole" in the clouds allowing the sunshine to light up the edge of the gap. The gap was gold and allowed a little of the blue sky to shine. It surely didn't last long and the day turned cloudy and very gray - but the morning was worth it.

Roses by the River Photo of the Day 231/365 I took this photo this past weekend. I was walking by the river while my daughter was at a service and it was very hot. The sun was in an out of the clouds and I was taking every advantage of getting photos while no one was around and I had no real time pressure. I thought that a photo of these roses with the river and a hint of blue sky in the background was a nice summer shot.

Squeezing Out the Sunset Photo of the Day 230/365 I took this photo a few weeks ago but it seemed to match the weather last evening. The clouds were dark and forboding and it had rained off an on. The sky seemed to brighten right near sunset, but it only shone for a brief moment. I was lucky enough (when I took the photo) to capture the sun just as the clouds moved and the sun sank behind the hill, to capture this image.

Cloudy Day at the River Photo of the Day 229/365 I took this photo this past Friday evening. I had dropped off my daughter at a service event and took a walk on the riverfront. It was on and off sunny but was very warm. I only made it about 3 blocks before I headed into the streets to find a little shade from the heat. However, I did manage to get some photos and this one is my favorite from the riverfront. I liked how the blues and the oranges shone through when the sun was covered by the clouds.

Beautiful Summer Morning Sky Photo of the Day 228/365 It is that time of year when the days light shifts so that I tend to miss both sunrise and sunset. As we get closer to autumn, I can get more sunrises, and less sunsets (mostly because I'm still working or teaching when the sun sets). This was a happy accident in that the clouds helped substantially in making this scene just awesome by hiding the bright sun but letting the brilliant colors of the sky through.

Popcorn Summer Sunset Photo of the Day 227/365 I took this photo about a month ago. When I go sunset hunting, I always take multiple shots. Many time, I only get one good one, but other times, I get many good ones and save some for later. Sometimes, I use alternate edits to see what differnt variations look like. This is just another angle and a slightly different edit. I like this one and am glad it was "saved for later."

Fencereow on a Misty Morning Photo of the Day 226/365 This photo was taken last week on my way to work. I have already posted other photos from my misty morning that day. The scenes were fascinating and still are, to me. I was lucky enough to be able to capture as many as I did. This one really caught my eye and it may be the last one I post. The lines of the fence and the mist just seem to take your eye into the photo.

Trailing Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 225/365 Tuesday evenings are my "night off" when I don't have any assigned duties. However, on this night my son came over to help out with some handyman things and we had dinner. After dinner, I wanted to go out for a sunset walk. I almost missed it as I was nodding off. My wife caught me and asked when I wanted to go out. It was almost perfect timing and I got this nice sunset shot.

Yellow Morning Mist Phot of the Day 224/365 This photo was taken late last week on the way to work. Nature provided the morning mist and I took a lot of photos of various landscapes and this is one of my favorites. The sun was peeking through the tops of these trees and the sunbeams were flowing through the mist. over the little rise is a pond where I've taken photos before, but I thought the mist and trees were enough.

Flaring Sunset Clouds throught the Trees Photo of the Day 223/365 Just when I was leaving my son's home this past weekend, I noticed that I had missed the sunset, but I could still see lots of color in the sky. I took a brief walk to get out from under the local power lines. I did my best to zoom in and capture what remained of the sunset clouds and the looked like they were flaring up - almost like little flames coming from behind the trees.

Sunset Sky Through the Clearing Phot of the Day 222/365 I took this photo two evenings ago. I was on my way home from my son's home when I saw the sun setting but knew I would miss it. However, on my way, I found a clearing onto a field and pulled over to try to grab a shot. It was a little darker than I would have prefered, but I think this came out well.

Misty Morning Road Photo of the Day 221/365 Yesterday morning, the mist was thick and the sun way doing its best to shine through and burn off the mist, but I was early. I had pulled off and took a number of the scenery around this farm. However, when I was walking back to my car, I saw this scene - a road I travel almost every day, but the mist and faint yellow of the morning light made it almost magical rather than mundane.

Morning Sky on Campus Photo of the Day 220/365 The morning skies just now are very surprising to me. I don't know if it's the smoke from far away or if it's just the time, of year, but the morning skies have been amazing. I took this photo yesterday morning when I got out of my car at work. The sky was just too pretty not to try to get a shot. I just managed to get a shot between buildings yet still include some of our wonderful old trees - well some of them are old....

Pretty Morning Sky Photo of the Day 219/365 The seasons are starting their turn so that morning skies are now getting to the point where they can be photographed without looking like mid-day. I was on my way to work yesterday morning when I saw the sun just hiddden by some morning clouds. I stopped at a local tree farm and grabbed a few photos with my phone and this was the best one. Soon, fall will be here and I'll take more sunrises than sunsets....

Predawn Sky over the Pines Photo of the Day 218/365 This photo was taken earlier in the year as I was on an early trip to work. The sky was very pretty and the colors in the clouds was just magnificent. i had to try to get the photo with the pines in the front. I tried my best to hide the power tower behind one of the pines but sometimes, they can't be avoided.

Early Evening Sky over the Farm Photo of the Day 217/365 This photo was taken a few weeks ago while out on a drive with my wife. We were out on some side road and the sky was magnificent and changing second to second. I asked my wife (who was driving) to slow down when I saw this farm. The sun had already set, but the skies were colorful but it was getting dark. With just a little editing (straightening, cropping and brightening), it is now, just as I saw the scene.

Stormy Sky Coming over the Hill Photo of the Day 216/365 This photo was captured about 6 weeks ago while we were at a church function. I looked to our west, while I was waiting for something outside,  and noted the coming storm. I had been hoping for a sunset, but that was not to be - however, the colors were just at the edge of this storm cloud and I did my best to capture the colros and textures of the sunset clouds below the storm. I really like these textures in the clouds.

Sunset, Barn, and Field Photo of the Day 215/365 I went on a LONG road trip yesterday, to midstate Virginia and back home to witness some blackbelt tests. When I got home, I was tired and exhausted from the drive. Shortly after I got home, I saw the coming sunset and asked my daughter if she wanted a walk. She said yes, and it gave me a chance to stretch my legs. This scene greeted us. while I would normally have posted a closer view of the sunset, I liked the wider view to include the barns, for a different feel - I think it works.

Sun Sinking through the Trees Photo of the Day 214/365 I had to run out last evening to get gas due to a road trip (today) to Virginia, so I took "the scenic route" home.  On the way, I was able to pull into spot and ran across the road and grab a few shots before the sun went down. This show was just before I lost the sun - it was a really nice shot, the weather was cool(er) and humidity comfortable. It was the best I got last night.

Morning Sky over the Field Photo of the Day 213/365 During the Summer, I don't get out of the house in time for really nice sunrise photos - these photos are done later in the year (or earlier in the year). However, yesterday, I managed to be driving to work when I saw this beautiful scene. The clouds had moved over the sun and made the sky dark enough (maybe less-bright would be a better term) to get what I would like in a morning photo. This is the result of that effort.
