Fiery Sunset over the Snowy Valley Photo of the Day 31/365 We got some significant snowfall a week ago and unlike other snows, this one just won't leave. The temperatures are so cold that the snow doesn't melt and what the sun softens turns to a nice crust on the 6+ inches of snow we have. I almost didn't get this shot. The parking lot where I can see this was barely plowed, but the stop was worth it. The colors of the setting sun were just outstanding.

Trees, Fence, Snow and Dawn Glow Photo of the Day 30/365 I took this photo a few mornings ago on the way to work. With our snow, there is now way I can easily pull off the road for a photo - but if I'm careful to watch for other cars, sometimes, I can stop in the middle of the road and get a shot. This is such a shot - the sunrise sky was brightening to the East but I could not get a shot - but to the West, this view showed itself and I took advantage.

Windswept Sunrise Sky Photo of the Day 29/365 I took this photo a few days ago. This was the original shot - I like the sweeping clouds, and the beginning edge of colors at the horizon. The oranges and golds on one side, and the dark blue and reds on the other. I also liked my vantage point where the clouds appear to sweep up out from the copse of trees near the horizon. All-in-all, I really like this one.

Snowy Tracks into the Sunset Photo of the Day 28/365 I took this photo on the way home from work last evening. I saw the sunset sky but I also knew there would be nowhere to easily pull off the road. So,when I crossed our railroad tracks and saw the sunset down the line, I parked in a nearby parking lot, ran back, and took a few photos. I like the way that this one turned out.

Snowy Field after Sunset Photo of the Day 27/365 This photo could have been from last evening - but, to be honest - it wasn't.  Last evening was much too cold to get my body out for a walk and capture a sunset. It was about 13 degrees (f) when sunset came and the sky looked wonderful - but - after shovelling due to the snowstorm - it was just too much. So, you'll have to see this one from another year - stilla good one, though.

Snowy View through the Backyards Photo of the Day 26/365 I took this photo yesterday monring when I went out to do the first round of shovelling in our driveway. We had received about 6 inches of new snow already and I needed to get the first round done. However, it was soo pretty, I had to stop and grab a couple of photos from our carport before starting. The snow was pretty but it was very cold and working alone, it was a lot of work. Some neighbors helped get the end of the driveway done and my child did round 2.  We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Down the Snowy Creek Photo of the Day 25/365 I took this photo a few years ago while at our old home, out for a long walk. The bridge where I took this photo is being replaced - but I'm fairly sure that this is very close to what that view would have been this morning.  This morning, the sky was farily clear with some puffy clouds, but very cold - like it was when I took this photo.

Reds in the Sky before the Dawn Photo of the Day 24/365 I had been hoping for a nice sunrise yesterday morning but there was a huge sweeping bank of clouds right where the sunrise would be. But as I looked closer, I saw the pinds and reds at the horizon and thought that if I cold make them the focus, I could get a good photo. I tried to frame that part of the sky with a nearby tree and I think I got what I wanted.

Covered Bridge in the Snow Photo of the Day 23/365 This photo was taken last weekend just after a snowfall - when I had to go in to work. I decided that if I had to work, I would stop and take some photos of the new fallen snow. I stopped and this view was right in front of me. I've taken similar shots through the yest, but this one always makes me pause. It's a daily view that I'll miss when I retire later this spring.

Wild Clouds Blotting out the Sunset Photo of the day 22/365 On my way home, I saw a hope of a sunset, but as I crested the hill, I was some wild clouds that were about to cover up the sunset, so I tried to grab two or three shots. Due to the darks and lights in the photo, it did take a bit of editing to tease out the colors of the sunset and the variations inthe light - the camera, by itselt, just didn't do it justice.

Sun Sinking through the Tangled Trees Photo of the Day 21/365 Monday evening, I was hurrying to get to my karate class.  The sunset was gorgeous but it was one of those times that I could not take the time to stop to grab photos.  So I did my best to get to class on time. I got there and saw this scene and thought that it was better than nothing - and that it even came out pretty good for a single grab-shot.

New Fallen Snow at the Creek Photo of the Day 20/365 I took this photo this past Sunday. I was called into work and went in after our church service. The snow had fallen overnight and the cold kept it. I stopped on the way in and grabbed a few photos before going into the office. I love snow photos - not sure I love being in the cold to take them. I do like this scene, however.

Sunset Sky through the Trees Photo of the Day 19/365 I had to work yesterday and as the afternoon wore on, we just got "into" to groove of the job. My wife texted me and said something like - "if you can take a break, look out the window to the west."  So I did, and took a bit longish break to get to a good window and get some snaps of the sky. I think this one came out the best. I really liked the trees in front of the layers of color.

Sunset on the Way Home Photo of the Day 18/365 My daughter dropped her phone a few days ago and was, of course, traumatized as she wasn't sure where except it was in the city. We got a call that night from a kind soul who had found it. We went last night to get the phone and on the way home, this sunset presented itself on the highway. Of course, I took too many photos, but I liked how this one came out. I like the balance of the cars and light poles with the sun.

Subtle Colors before Sunrise Photo of the Day 17/365 This photo was taken 2 days ago on the way to work. Unfortunately, I needed to be in a little early to work so I had to miss the actual sunrise.  The colors at the edge of the far hills seemed to contrast with the blues and grays in the clouds - so I liked the scene and pulled over to get two or three photos. After that, I was cold, and I had to get to work.  I'm still pleased with what I captured.

Afternoon Sunbeams over the Field Photo of the Day 16/365 I took this photo yesterday afternoon on the way home from work. When I first crested the hill - I was a little disappointed with the sky as the sunset was mostly hidden. However, just a second or two later, the sunbeams came bursting through and I was able to get a few shots before they went back behind the clouds. It was definitely worth stopping for.

Cold Windy Afternoon Across the Field Photo of the Day 15/365 This photo was taken perhaps a week ago while my wife and I were driving about. She had decided to take "the long way" and travel some back roads. I saw some scenes with "wide open spaces" in them and tried to grab a few shots. The air was cold and the wind was blowing. I took this from inside my car as my wife slowed down. If this had been a warmer day, I'd have asked her to stop in a driveway so I could take more photos.

Field Grass, Trees, and Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 14/365 I was out for a rather cold walk the other day and saw the sunset clouds beyond the field and trees and did my best to try to capture the scene. It took quite a bit of editing to get the image to what I saw. Thankfully, I had my "big iron" (my Sony A7IV) with me and could get the focus on the grass, but I still had to crop, and fiddle with the exposure and colors to make it what I saw. I now like it quite a lot.

Last Bit of Sun for the Day Photo of the Day 13/365 I shot this photo a few days ago but liked (at the time) a wider shot for my daily posting so this one sat waiting. I like most of my photos but this one I like because of the colors. The colors of the clouds almost match the colors of the hills. The barely lit field and that list bit of sun sinking into the clouds make this a really nice image for me.

Cold Sunset Fire in the Trees Photo of the Day 12/365 I took this photo last evening I decided to go out for a sunset walk. Earlier in the day, the temperatures had not been too bad. However, Mother Nature did a turnabout and the winds were howling and the temperatures had dropped substantially as the sun was fading into night. The sun was bright so I had to wait until this moment to get (IMHO) the best photo.

Lone Pine Reaching into Morning Photo of the Day 11/365 I took this photo late last year but never posted it. This lone pine tree top just came into my view as I was trying to get a better view of the sunrise. I decided to try and keep the treetop in my photo. I think, for me, it has some symbolism with fighting and reaching up into the new day. We all need that sometimes.

Sunrise over the Creek Photo of the Day 10/365 I took this photo about 2 months ago while on my way to work. The timini was very close to perfect. The sun was just coming up over the far hiils and there were enough clouds to allow for color in the sky and in the environment. I have always loved taking photos from this spot and will likely return to it, even after I retire (in about 3 months).

Sweeping Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 9/365 On the way home last evening, all I saw was a dark cloud until I came up the hill and found that the cloud had lifted and the sun was just setting. The contrast in tone and color in the sky provided a lovely image for me. I love the colors and I love the bright sweeping line in the clouds lit by the fading daylight. The whole scene works for me.

Misty Morning on the Creek Photo of the Day 8/365 I had a doctor's check up yesterday morning, so I was later than usual in arriving at work. When I did get there, this view greeted me as I got to our campus. I saw the mist and the sunlight cutting through it over our little creek and bridge. I stopped my car, jumped out and took about 5 shots before I continued to my office. I think this photo conveys the moring, just right.

Stunning Sunrise Sky Photo of the Day 7/365 I took this photo last season (late autumn) and didn't get a chance to posi it. Between my waning illness and the time of year, sunsets and sunrises have eluded me most days, so I'm reaching into my backlog to post photos I'm happy with. This is such a photo. I took it on the way to work and the clouds just made the morning sky pop with color and the undulating hills just added to the feeling of layers in the images.

Murky Sunset over the Field Photo of the Day 6/365 I took this photo last weekend. I was out for a walk to see what scenic photos I could get and I tried to get out near to sunset. The sun was just setting in between the hills and I noticed the last high grasses in the middle of the sun. The clouds were murky and toned the sun down enough to not blot out the details of the grasses. I like how the colors, even though more muted, were still vivid and not too bright.

Sunrays, Field Grass, and Rolling Hills Photo of the Day 5/365 I went out for a brief walk yesterday afternoon. The sky was laden with clouds, but hope springs eternal and I was hoping for something to come out in the sky. At this time of year, the sun, at sunset, is way up the field and I have to walk a ways to see much. The clouds were hangiing tough, but the sun decided to break through briefly and provide some light and color to the field so I grabbed an image or two and I really like what came out.

Lines in the Field in the Afternoon Photo of the Day 4/365 This photo was taken a couple of days ago while I was out for a late afternoon walk. I was too early for a sunset (which turned out to be cloudless anyway) and I was looking for a photo subject. The clouds were clustered in a single part of the sky and as I cleared a tree line, I saw the patterns in the field grass in the later afternoon light - just in front of those few clouds. This was the resulting shot.

Bands of Sunset Clouds at the Horizon Photo of the day 3/365 This photo was taken a few nights ago. Like last night, the few clouds we had hung close to the horizon, and made for a challenging photo. Tonight, there were fewer clouds, so I decided to post a similar shot with a more interesting sky. I also like how the clouds hung with the trees. The blue of the sky, though was the same clear color as last night.

A Cold Day at the Lake Photo of the day 2/365 Over this holiday, I've been under the weather, so I've been going back in time, looking at my older works and picking out some for future posts. This photo is 10 years old and I remember the day. The temperature was, in fact, colder than now, but not any prettier. The air was crisp and cold - and still - except for at the lakeshore, where the breeze was chilling. The sky looked like it should have been warmer, but it wasn't - but it WAS very beautiful.

A Pretty Sunrise to start the New Year Photo of the Day 1/365 This photo, yes, was taken earlier last year - but - it was one of the prettiest skies I saw last year and this was a "wide" shot that really showed off the sky.  Unfortunately, I've been sick since Christmas and had few opportunities to get out over the holiday to take photos so I had to delve back in time to get a really good one to start the year off.
