Soft Summer Sunrise Photo of the Day 212/365 The other night, I managed a walk out to catch the setting sun after a stormy day. I wasn't expecting much, but Mother Nature delivered anyway. I got a clearing of the western sky with just enough clouds to make the sunset colorful and provide just a little light to the field in the foreground. It was a really nice sunset.

Sunset Hiding in the Clouds Photo of the Day 211/365 A couple of evenings ago, I had definitely not anticipated a sunset. The day had been filled with bouts of rain and thunderstorms. However, just when the time for sunset came, the clouds thinned, and the colors came out. I walked out to the end of the driveway, and the colors were very intense. I took some photos initially and then took a quick walk and got more photos that included the sun. You'll probably see them in the coming days.

Stream and Falls with Bridge Photo of the Day 210/365 On our mini-vacation last weekend, we spent an afternoon and early evening in Letchworth State Park in New York. Our first few stops in the park were overlooks.  As we continued on the loop road, we traveled over a bridge to a picnic area. At the end of the rest area, we found a path which took us to a clearing area where we could see a strip coming from under a bridge and the ensuing waterfalls. It was so peaceful!

Upper Falls at Letchworth State Park Photo of the Day 209/365 Our last time at Letchworth State Park was gruelling. We were hiking and walking more than I was used to. I sat for a rest while the rest went to explore a bit.  Upon their return, my wife was out of steam, and my son told me that he found a way to see the upper falls. We drove to a parking lot, walked for a short time, and saw them. This is the view we got to experience - just before we left.

Welcome Home Sunset Photo of the Day 208/365 We went away for a long weekend with my son and his wife. This has been a pretty rough season for us as a family. Today is my birthday, and tomorrow is my son's birthday. We decided, as two couples, to get away, so we went to Rochester, New York. We saw the Eastman House, Letchworth State Park, and the Corning Museum of Glass. It was a great weekend and I didn't keep up with the blogs but I did get some great shots and had a good time.

Sunset and Silo Photo of the Day 205/365 The other night, my wife and I took a drive to try to capture a sunset. We knew the sun was still up, but here were only a few shadows. We tried to follow a road we've used before with farms on it. I was hoping to get some manner of subject to offset the lack of clouds. I managed to get an image of the sun just as it got to the silo. I don't think it was too bad, considering the car was moving when I took the photo.

Last Bit of Sunset Photo of the Day 204/365 Two days ago, it had been cloudy and rainy all day. Hopes for a sunset were not running very high. At the end of the day, sitting in our living room, I suddenly saw the walls light up. I got up and saw the very last moments of a sunset. I walked carefully, barefoot, across our yard and driveway and tried to grab a few photos before the sun went into the clouds. This was the best shot I could get.

Fields, Trees, and Afternoon Light Photo of the Day 203/365 We left the house a few nights ago, trying to get out, and trying to seek to find a sunset. We did not have a great deal of success finding a wonderful sunset, but we did see some nice scenes. This scene was found between two farms. The first, on the right, has a field easily seen by the rows of plants; the other, on the left, can be seen by the fenced-in field. In the late afternoon light, I liked the scene and the green of summer.

Sunset over the Corn Field Photo of the Day 202/365 This photo was taken some time ago, but could have been taken yesterday. The sky was right, the corn is right, but I could not catch a sunset last night. The sky wasn't right last night, but a few years ago, at about this time, this scene presented itself, and I really liked it, but didn't get a chance then to post it.

Sunset and Reflections in the Grass Photo of the Day 201/365 Last evening, after the rains, the smoke cleared from the sky, and I was hopeful for a sunset. As the sky cleared, it was, indeed, clear. There were few, if any, clouds, so my hopes seemed dashed for a sunset. My wife and I went out for a drive in the late afternoon, and on the way home, I was able to get this photo of the sunset in the grass by the side of the road. I do like the composition and the light. Another lucky shot.

Red Sun over a Smoky Valley Photo of the Day 200/365 Two evenings ago, we were suffering through the final throes of the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. We had not seen the sun for a few days, and the smoke was for real. It smelled of smoke, despite the fact that the fires were thousands of miles away. My wife and I went out for a drive, and I managed one photo where the sun tried its best to poke through the smoke, and this is it.

Burning Sun Dropping in the Trees Photo of the Day 199/365 As I've posted previously, the past week or two have been very spotty in terms of photo opportunities. This makes me reach back a few weeks to post some photos from earlier evenings and show some of the "seconds" of sunsets. These are ones from nights when I already posted other angles or other shots from the evening. This one I like becuase the clouds almost make the sky look like a wildfire is happening.

Sun Burning through the Clouds Photo of the Day 198/365 Over the past few days, I've been forced to use my photos from the last week or two. I can't wait for the heat to let up, and the sky to get less milky (from the Canadian wildfires). Until then, I'll keep posting the different angles and views I've achieved during the past few weeks' sunsets. This one was a zoomed-in view to show the sun up close with the far hills and trees.

Sun Breaking through the Clouds Photo of the Day 197/365 The other night, I was out walking near sunset, and thought I was too early. However, the clouds made the photo, as the clouds hid, and then revealed the sun. I was able to capture this photo just as the sun came out and lit the sky. I really liked the colors in the sky, also.

Touches of Sunset over the Trees Photo of the Day 196/365 A few nights ago, I ventured out as I usually do when there is a chance of a nice sunset. The sunset, however, came and went quickly, in and out of the clouds. By the time I got to a nice spot for a photo, the sun had faded back behind the clouds. I did manage this shot with two lone slivers of sunset color among the clouds. I do like the bands of clouds with the tiny bits of color.

Sunbeams at Sunset Photo of the Day 195/365 The other night, I took a sunset walk and saw the layers of clouds near the horizon at sunset. As the sun moved into a clear spot in the clouds, the beams of sunlight burst forth from the tops of the clouds. I took a number of photos and tried different angles and views. This one was one of the best versions.

Backroad into Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 194/365 The other night, I liked the sunset, but I wanted something different. At the moment I took this, the sun was too bright, but to the north, the sky was beautifully colored. I panned that direction and worked to get a good view of the road and the sky. I had to wait a bit so that there would be no cars, but the wait was worth it.

Soft Sunset from the Porch Photo of the Day 193/365 Two days ago, I found myself, once again, on a walk to try to capture a sunset sky. We have had beautiful skies at sunset for the past few days, after the exhausting heat. I did not make the actual sunset on this walk, but I did find a beautiful sky viewable from the neighbor's porch. I had to take advantage of the view.

Sunset and Heavy Equipment Photo of the Day 192/365 Two evenings ago, I saw the sunset coming on, and the sun and sky seemed spectacular. When I saw it, it was too late to get in the car and drive and explore. I decided, instead, to venture over to our neighbor's former farm. They are transforming the farm into a housing development, and the heavy equipment is there leveling the fields. It is a shame, but I'll use the scene as long as I can.

Sunset Sky over the Field Photo of the Day 191/365 On my way home from karate class, I noted the bright clouds in the sky. I made it to my driveway and decided to take a quick walk to try to capture an image that would be good. By the time I got to my location, the sky had lit up with the colors of sunset, and I was very fortunate to get this image.

Cloudy Warm Summer Sunset Photo of the Day 190/365 We've passed the halfway point for the year and the summer heat has been on. We finally got a partial break a couple of days ago, and the temperatures dropped to "bearable". Despite cloudy weather, I looked out just before sunset and found that there was a clearing spot in the clouds and a potential sunset sky. I got out and nabbed a few photos before the sun sank behind the final clouds, and I really like the outcome.

Wild Sunset Sky Photo of the Day 189/365 The weather has not been conducive to outdoor photography lately. The temperatures have given us heat that has been record-setting, with clear skies, or the weather has been cloudy and rainy. So, I decided to dig back a bit to find a photo with a great sky that I hadn't posted. This photo was a great sky, but at the time, I had a different one that I posted. I think it is a worthwhile photo to post.

Just Before the Storm at the River Photo of the Day 188/365 This photo was taken on the way home from a family double birthday party. It was the birthday party for my sister-in-law and my daughter-in-law. We were at the home of my other sister-in-law and were eating and lounging by the pool. It was VERY hot, and we saw the storms coming. We finished up and headed out. We took the riverside street on the way home and I got a single shot of the sky before the storms hit.

Sunset Sky behind the Trees Photo of the Day 187/365 This photo was taken a few weeks ago while travelling home. My wife and I saw the fantastic sunset, but were looking for a location. I found a good location, but it meant she had to stop in the road, let me out, and wait. If a car came by, she would travel on, turn around, and come back for me. Fortunately, that was not needed, and I got a number of shots at that location. This was one of the best.

Lone Rowboat on Frenchman's Bay Photo of the Day 186/365 I took this photo about four years ago while on our annual vacation to Mt. Desert Island in Maine. That area of the USA is my favorite area, and if it weren't for some extenuating circumstances (family, mostly), I would have moved there. The reason I posted this one is twofold. I miss the place even though I was there only a month ago, and it has been SO hot and clear here, I haven't gotten out to take more photos.

Flag Flying over City Hall Photo of the Day 185/365 This photo was taken quite a few years ago while on a business trip to San Francisco. I was reviewing some of my old, old photos yesterday and saw this one. I decided to pull it out, do a little editing and post it. It was taken about 23 years ago, so it needed a little bit of work since the camera I used was about 23 years old. In any case, it seemed appropriate for US Independence Day!!

Big Sky Colorful Sunset View Photo of the Day 184/365 A few weeks ago, we had an awesome sunset. I took many photos and, over time, have posted a number of them. This one took a little bit of editing as it is a very wide view. The colors captured by my phone were so vivid that I actually toned it down because, to me, it did not look real. It IS a wonderful photo, and is one of the views that I will be losing due to a new housing development.

Sun Peeking through the Clouds Photo of the Day 183/365 I didn't think there would be a sunset the other night. I saw an opportunity, but was not hopeful. There was a cloud bank above and below the sun. I started my walk, and the sun was behind the upper bank. By the time I got to my chosen spot, the sun had made its way between the cloud banks. I saw it peeking out and managed two or three shots before it disappeared completely.

Sunset through the Trees Photo of the Day 182/365 A couple of days ago, I noted that the clouds had left and the sky appeared to be clear. I was not counting on getting a sunset. That was, until I got home and looked over my shoulder. There were faint wisps of clouds, and the sun was setting through the neighbor's trees. I walked to the end of my driveway, shifted over a bit, and managed three shots, and liked this one the best.
