Cruise Ship as Night Falls Photo of the Day 262/365 I am travelling for the next week and will not be posting until I return. So, I reached WAY back in my archives for this photo. We were taking an Alaskan cruise on our 25th wedding anniversary, and this photo was taken from our cruise ship when another ship passed in the distance. I was able to get enough light to capture the sky at nightfall and the distant ship. This photo was taken with a Sony point-and-shoot about 18 years ago.

Bold Colors at Sunset Photo of the Day 261/365 I always try to get very pretty sunsets, and there are many times when the colors change minute by minute. The shots even look similar sometimes, but because I took a pause to move a little, the colors change. This is one of those cases. The colors were beautiful and much softer on my first shots, but they changed as the sun sank lower, and I like all the shots I got that evening.

Fall is Coming Soon Photo of the Day 260/365 To be truthful, I found this photo on a memory card that was left in a camera that I took for the purpose of recycling. In the end, I did not recycle the camera, but cleaned it up and sold it. However, I took the memory card out, as I always do, and look at the photos. If there are any photos of people, I usually delete them and examine any landscapes and use them. I could have taken this photo as I know where it was taken and it is at an angle that I have shot at before, but I have to be honest about it - not mine - but I don't know whose it was.

Sun Tell Us Good-Night Photo of the Day 259/365 Last evening, I took the dog out for a walk and found that the time was right for a short sunset walk, I put the dog inside and took a brief ten-minute jaunt to the neighbor's farm. I found that due to the changing seasons, the sun's position on the horizon had moved, and the sun was setting on a small hill. As the sun sank, I could only think that it was telling us good night.

Sunset over the Hills and Branches Photo of the Day 258/365 This photo was taken a few evenings ago while out on my usual sunset walk. I am still striving to find new compositions and views. This view was found in a normal spot, but seen over my shoulder while walking back. This tree was in the right spot so I could use it for this photo with the far hills and the sunset.

Barn in the Morning Sunshine Photo of the Day 257/365 We had to go up to my father-in-law's hometown last week. We went through multiple areas of dense fog followed by short bursts of morning sunshine where the fog had lifted. We were driving past this barn, which I've photographed before, and this day it was in the sunshine. I decided to try to grab a shot as it may be one of the last times we drive by. This photo was the result.

Grassy Sunset Photo of the Day 256/365 This photo was taken a few days ago. I saw the sky and just could not pass it up. I went into the neighbor's field and tried to find a spot without construction equipment for the upcoming development. I found a way to get low enough to show the grass, make it work, and really enjoy how it came out.

 Sunset Under the Branches Photo of the Day 255/365 When I'm out for a sunset walk, I'm usually looking for compositions that aren't "just" the sky. Sometimes, the sky is more than enough. The sky can be dramatic and colorful. On this night, I liked the way the dark branches offset the colors of the setting sun. The blue hills were a definite addition to the photo. This was a good capture for me.

Wild Clouds after the Sunset Photo of the Day 254/365 Lately, we've had some boring sunsets, where I've had to "find" compositions, and other times, the skies provide their own drama.  A few evenings ago was one of the latter. The sun had already set, which was nice, but the clouds remaining after the sunset provided the interest with varying colors and light. These are the skies I hope for.

  Barn in the Morning Sun Photo of the Day 253/365 Two days ago, my wife had to drive about an hour for an early morning appointment regarding her father's estate. I decided to go with her and photograph what I could. I saw a number of opportunities, but the morning sun shining onto this barn stood out as a good opportunity for a farm shot. I really liked the capture.

  Photo of the Day 230/365  Early Morning Sky over the Tall Grass We've been watching the news lately at breakfast and the weather people always have a "beautiful sky" on their screens, but I haven't seen one (in the morning).  So on the way to work yesterday, I managed to see the aftermath of a sunset in the morning sky. The sky's colors, the tall grass aglow with the morning light, the blue hills in the background - all make me remember the mornings earlier when the sunrises were spectacular. I then remember that they'll be here (along with cooler temperatures) before we know it. Don't wish your life away - live in the moment.

  Photo of the Day 242/365 A Nice Ending to the Day   This photo was taken the other evening after a brisk walk. The sun had gone down, but on the walk back, I looked over my shoulder and saw the magnificent colors and clouds streaming from the west. The combination proved too much to pass up. As the title says, "a nice ending to the day."

  Photo of the Day 243/365  Trail through the Woods This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago while on a walk at a nearby lake. The earth on the trail contrasted so well with the green of the foliage coupled with the bright light made, for me, a striking scene. The straightness of this portion with the curve at the end also lent a sense of mystery. I just liked the scene. It also seems to mirror my feelings sometimes - you think you're going straight but you can see curves ahead and don't know where they go.

    Photo of the day 300/365 Fiery Clouds at the Edge of Sunset  I saw the reds of these clouds reflecting while at my karate classes last evening and had to run out to see what was in the sky.  I saw these clouds and had to run back in to get my phone and snap a few photos of the the clouds and the surrounding trees and hills. I got lucky and another great sky was caught.  

Streaks of Sunset Color at the Edge Photo of the Day 232/365 Earlier this week, I saw an amazing sky after dinner. I took a quick walk to try to catch a sunset. I missed the actual sunset, but I did manage to catch the beautiful colors in the sky. The colors at the edge definitely were sunset colors, but there were subtle colors in the clouds, and the blue of the coming evening contrasted with the sunset colors.

Pretty Sunset Clouds Photo of the Day 252/365 Sometimes, sunsets are very pretty. However, many times, the clouds on either side of a setting sun can be even prettier. A few nights ago, I ventured out for a sunset walk and got some nice sunset shots, but when I looked to the north of the setting sun, I found these pretty clouds and took a few photos of those colors and clouds - and this one was a favorite.

Sunset and Storm Clouds Photo of the Day 251/365 Sometimes, the clouds just seem to be the main stars in sunset photos. In this photo, the storm had just passed by the western horizon and had lost most of its punch. The clouds, however, looked much nastier than they were. The sunset had just broken through those clouds and only lasted a few moments. I'm glad I could capture this one. 

Farm in the Late Afternoon Photo of the Day 250/365 A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went shopping and tried to catch a sunset. The shopping went as expected, but the sunset did not. However, as we drove to and from the store, I was able to get some nice shots in the last afternoon light. This farm was near a slower part of the trip so I could take a couple of photos. I liked this one the best.

Sunset through the Tall Grass Photo of the Day 249/365 I was out for a walk to try to capture a sunset, but I did not want to pass up this beautiful sky. However, I wanted a unique view, so I got down on my haunches and tried to get a photo with the tall, green grass in it. I managed to succeed after a few shots. I did think the small gray spot on the right was a sunspot, but it turned out to be a dandelion!

Sunset by the Picnic Bench Photo of the Day 248/365 A few nights ago, I was out for my regular sunset walk and found this picnic bench and lights under the neighbor's tree. The sun was in the process of setting and I really liked the light as it filtererd through the leaves of the tree and reflected on the mist in the hills across the field. It seems to me to be a nice representative summer shot.

Sunset between the Barns Photo of the Day 247/365 A few nights ago, I was out for a sunset walk. I usually try to see new angles or views of the setting sun. This particular night, I felt I had exhausted my views. However, on my return trip, the sun caught my eye and I turned around to see this view of the fields and sunset between the barns. I took a few shots to try to get a good exposure, but it required some editing to get right.

Sun Cutting through the Clouds Photo of the Day 246/365 Two evenings ago, I decided to try to find a sunset, despite the lack of clouds and a down mood. I went out for a walk, and much to my surprise, there was a line of clouds close to the horizon and I was able to capture a broad set of views and scenes before the sun sank into the horizon. This photo was taken very nearly to the end of my time there.

Bands of Color after Sunset Photo of the Day 245/365 This photo was taken a few weeks ago. As I've said, whenever I go out to capture sunsets, I always try to get a plethora of views, angles, and shots so I have choices to post in the coming days. Lately, there have been a number of good days, so there has been a backup of photos. I really liked the bands of clouds in this sky and particularly like this angle.

Barn in the Afternoon Light Photo of the Day 244/365 A few days ago, my wife and I were out for a drive, and while we could not catch the sunset, I did catch a good number of afternoon light photos. I really like how the low light caught the barn. I had to snap the photo while we were driving, but I still think it came out well.
