Sunset Glow in the Clouds Photo of the Day 181/365 I found this scene this past weekend. I had given up on a sunset and indeed, we did NOT get a sunset, but after the sun had set, the colors lit up a part of the sky I had not expected. So, I rushed out to see what I could see and while I found a number of shots, this one really took my fancy - a simple show of a glow between the coming rain clouds, just showing some red and pink.

Storm Down a Country Road P:hoto of the Day 180/365 We've been taking weekend, when we can, to clear my in-laws home, in preparation to sell it. When we were nearing our visit, we heard thunder and decided to hurry a little. On our way, I spied the wall of clouds coming our way from the west. I took a number of frames, but this one, with country road (which has a road-closed sign) seemed to be the most poignant.

Misty View through the Trees Photo of the Day 179/365 This photo could have been taken this evening as the rains were about to move into our area to break into another warm set of days - but - it wasn't.  It was taken on one of our first days on our Maine vacation. We were on our way in a rural part of Maine when we were on a country road through some rolling hills with very little traffic. I took a number of "misty" photos but for some reason, this one has stuck with me.

Fleeting Sky at Sunset Photo of the Day 178/365 This photo was taken a couple of days ago. I had just left my martial arts classes and was on my way home. I looked over these hills and saw that the sun had set behind them and the sky was ablaze with color. I stopped briefly in our town and grabbed a few shots before continuing. If you look at yesterday's post, you'll see the sunset after I made it past these hills.

Sun Sinking through the Clouds Photo of the Day 177/365 I took this photo last evening on my way home from our karate classes. I could not pass up another chance to get a good sunset. It started with a view of clouds above our local "mountains" (hills) on the drive home and ended up stopping so I could shoot over an open field. I zoomed in as far as I could and got a number of images but this one was the best. I have wider shots but this one caught my eye.

Sunset over the Hay Field Photo of the Day 176/365 I really thought that the opportunity for a sunset was not happening last night. I was home for the evening and was looking, on and off, at the sky - clear with no clouds. As the evening wore on, I glanced out our front window and the light suddenly changed. I got up and looked out. Some clouds had gathered near the horizon and I "had to go" - and got the above image at the neighbor's farm. I had to hustle, but it was worth it.

Sunset and Smoky Sky Photo of the Day 175/365 I took this photo on my way home from class last night. Once again, I got lucky and was able to just stop my car in the middle of the road and take a few iPhone snaps. The traffic on my road isn't always that accomodating, but I won't complain. Despite the extreme heat we're having, the sunsets have been nice.

Rainy Morning with a Misty Field Photo of the Day 174/365 We've been having either rainy days, or like today, VERY warm day. This was taken some time ago on one of the rainy, misty mornings over a field. I had to do some editing to brighten and bring out the field's colors. As I've said before, the camera (no matter what camera) does not always give you what your eye sees.

Sunset Glow and Layers of Hills Photo of the Day 173/365 I just love how the glow of the setting sun offset the layers of the hills in this photo. While this actual photo was taken more than 15 years ago - it could have been last night. The glow in the sky was identical to last evening. I'm not sure if it's smoke in the atmostphere or not, but there are few clouds and an orange glow. I couldn't get out far to get a better photo so the archives had to do.

Night Clouds and Field Grass Photo of the Day 172/365 Last evening my wife and I were on our way home from some errands when I noted how odd the clouds looked to the east. She agreed and aked if I wanted her to stop.  At the time were were on a back road with very little traffic - so I said yes, but just to stop in the road, where there was an open field) and let me grab a few.  I got three pictures using the iPhone and we drove off (no other cars) and this photo is the result.

Pretty Sky over the Salt Marsh Photo of the Day 171/365 I took ths photo while we were in Maine a couple of weeks ago. I let it sit in my archive as it wasn't a sunset, and wasn't an ocean or coastal photo (which are my favorites) - but something in this one called to me. We were on a drive and I had asked my wife to pull over. The sun was at my back and I decide to photgraph the salt marsh and I think (now) it turned out to be a nice view of Maine's inland coastal waterway.

Misty Morning at the Lake Photo of the Day 170/365 I took this photo some time ago but it seems to fit my mood right now. Misty with a slight chance of a better day. The calm water of the lake, the mist rising in the moist morning air of early summer, and the darkness of morming - all seem to meet together to fit my mood. Things change all the time and you never know what the mists of time and life will give you - but enjoy what you have, when you have it.

Rainy Day over the Farm Photo of the Day 169/365 It has been raining here, on an off, since we've been home from vacation (almost all the days) - and this photo from my archives seems to match my (photo) mood. It is dark, rainy, and feels a little lonely. It's still a good photo, it just conveys my mood and that's why I selected it for my photo of the day.

Sunset and Barn Side Photo of the Day 168/365 This photo was taken earlier this year, in the spring. I posted, the next day, a lovely photo of the sunset, but this photo languished in my archives. In looking at this shot, I liked that I included the side of the barn and the path into the field. At first, the sunset grabs you, but the lines lead you into the image. What you don't hear is the bees that didn't like my presence and were buzzing behind my head - I DO remember that.

noon at Schoodic Bay Photo of the Day 167/365 This photo will bring me good memories for a long time. We visited Acadia National Park about 2 weeks ago and on one of the last days, we went to Schoodic and on our way out he asked to stop at a pull off. He jumpted out of the car and went running on the rocks. His wife and I followed to take photos. He wanted a last chance to run/jump on the rocks. You can barely see him at the left of the just to the right of the pine tree. It was a great trip and I can't wait to get back.

Sunset Sky and Standing Trees Photo of the Day 166/365 It's been so rainy the past couple of days that I haven't been able to get out to take photos. I did get out to celebrate Fathers Day with my sone and his wife, but photography wasn't in the picture (haha). So, I pulled this photo from my archives, where it sat as a farily dully photo - so I did some editing to bring it to where I saw it and here it is for your enjoyment. Happy Fathers Day!

Cliffs in Acadia (wish I was there again) Photo of the Day 165/365 This image, which I took last week, was taken at Raven's Nest on Schoodic Peninsula within Acadia National Park - in Maine. This area of the country is, indeed, my happy place. I have been there more than 20 times and I can ALWAYS find something wonderful and breathtaking to photograph. My younger self might have moved there, but life doesn't alway give you what you want, so I must be happy with visits and memories.

Sunset Sky over the Fields Photo of the Day 164/365 On my way home last night, I saw the faint colors of sunset fading to the west. As I neared home, I saw some wonderful colors appear over the neighboring fields. There was little traffic, so i stopped in the middle of the road and tried to grab a few photos before continuing home. After a bit of editing, this is the result.

Sun Sinking into the Evening Photo of the Day 163/365 Yesterday was my anniversary so I was trying to get home early from class. I left on time, so I could stop at a store and pick up something I thought my wife would appreciate. I made all that happen and on the way home I noticed, of course, the setting sun. I stopped and took a few pics before I got home. This, in my opinion, was the best one. I love the bands of clouds on the sun, and the subtle view of the far hills and the trees help to balance it.

Setting Sun and House Light Photo of the Day 162/365 Last evening, as I was settling in for a rest after dinner, I saw this scene. It came on unexpectedly. The sky had been cloudy with some clear spots, but near the horizon looked very milky and cloudy. I had considered the weather unlikely for a sunset. I was wrong - but I was not prepared for a "quick" walk so I took this from our front porch. The sun was just setting behind our neighbor's tree and light, so I thought I'd grab a few photos and this was the best.

Sunset Clouds through the Pines Photo of the Day 161/365 This photo was taken last week on our vacation in Maine. The day had been gray and cloudy. I was hoping for a clearing skies, or, if things went well, a sunset. As the afternoon wore on, I saw nature trying to deliver the skies and sunet - so I grabbed what I could and got this photo while we were driving on our way back to our cabin. I like the sunbeams "coloring" part of the sky (or what the camera saw)  and the trees. We DID barely catch a sunset (look earlier last week at the red glow sunset).

Northerly View from Cadillac Mt. Photo of the Day 160/365 This photo was taken last week while on vacation. My wife and I were strolling about Cadillac Mountain one morning while my son and his wife were "climbing" about the boulders. We explored the various angles in the morning and the clouds danced and moved quickly We were at one end of the area when I turned and saw this view and really liked it.

Misty View of Frenchman's Bay through the Branches Photo of the Day 159/365 This photo was taken a couple of days ago while were were hikingon Schoodic Peninsula. We had been moving around some cliffs when I spotted this view over the bay with the misty mountains in the distance. The view was great but the framing of the branches brought things into focus for me. I really like how it came out.  I would have moved back further but I would have fallen off the cliff.

Afternoon Clouds before the Rains Came at Mt. Desert Narrows Photo of the Day 158/365 After our last day on Mt. Desert - a cloudy and rainy day - which was spent antique-ing. We were almost back when the sun tried to break through for one last time. I asked my wife to pull over so I could run back an try a few photos before we went back to the cabin to pack. I got a few good ones, and this is the best. Back to work, next week.

Afternoon View from Raven's Nest Photo of the Day 157/365 So today after some sight-seeing, my family went to a well-known but not officially recognized trail in the Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park, known as Raven's Nest. I understand why it is NOT scanctioned and NOT recognized - it is dangerous. Slipping would be easy if one were not very careful and falls would be life threatening - but it was worth it for the views, as you can see.

Red Sun Pond Raeflection Photo of the Day 156/365 One the way to pick up some dinner at a take out place, I saw the burning red sun in the sky. I mentioned to my wife that perhaps on the way back to our cabin, we could pull over at a favorite spot and try to get some photos. The place was just right and the angle was just right but all I had was my phone so here is the best I could do with it. I like it - but it IS real - no fakery her.

Golden Sunset on the Cove Photo of the Day 155/365 After a long day of shopping, my son and his wife decided to do some coastal rock climbing .As they explored the rocks and my wife and I watched for loons (yes, we saw some and heard one) - the sun kept ketting lower and lower. As the day came to a close, I was able to capture a nice golden photo of the setting sun over the water. 'Twas a good day.

Beautiful Sunset on the Cove ]hoto of the Day 154/365 After we got home from a day touring and having fun in Acadia National Park. We got back to the cabin, unpacked from the day and I took a slow walk down to the water. I sat down to relax and unwind and this view greeted me with 10 minutes of sitting down. As the title said, a beautiful sunset on the cove.

Edge of Sunset on the Cove Photo of the Day 153/365 We got home from some rainy day activities and on the final leg home, we saw what could have been a magnificient sunset. We got back to our cabins and most of use hustled down to the water to try to get the end of the sunset. We managed to get the red glow in the clouds as the sky darkened for the eveining I like this one.

View Through the Inlet on a Rainy Day Photo of the Day 152/365 This photo is one that I've been trying to figure out a way to get for years. On this vacation trip, I saw it again and my wife lovingly pulled off the road so I could walk back and get it.  The image has always made me wonder about the small inlet and the narrow view - I guess it just speaks to the narrow way onto the huge ocean.
